The point actually is that Moffat had no business bringing Gallifrey back after RTD wistfully destroyed it. It's not as if he had anything interesting to do with it once he brought it back. Chibnall was quite right to try to undo the damage done by Moffat, and not just in relation to Gallifrey.

The thing is, Moffat made a hash of it because he hadn't thought it through from the start so none of it made much sense because it contradicted itself so much. RTD understands character better so chances are he'll get it right.

What are you talking about, Brave New World underperformed at the Box Office? It'll be near $300m worldwide this weekend after just over a week on release!! Why do you write this stuff prematurely or if you don't understand the data you're looking at? The film is looking to turn a decent profit for Marvel...oh, and it's a damned entertaining film too!

I think your adoration of his era blinkers you to the reality that Capaldi's era was a disaster and heralded a decline in the show's popularity that it has never been able to fully arrest. He just wasn't popular and Capaldi is savvy enough to know that and I also suspect that he was disappointed by the dreary, meandering material he was given to work with and the schizophrenia of his characterization that was completely changed after his first season in a laughable attempt to make him appeal to young audiences. Hoodie! Sonic shades! Scruffy clothes! Guitars! Embarrassing to watch and, for an actor of Capaldi's calibre, embarrassing to play. That's really why he won't come back.
