For American Idol season 23, Carrie took Katy's seat at the judging table because Katy wanted to leave the show in order to focus on her own music career again. Carrie was the perfect person to replace Katy because she won American Idol season 4 in 2005, and she had firsthand experience with being a contestant and having an extraordinary career after the show.

Katy had been an American Idol judge since 2018 when ABC revived the show after FOX canceled it in 2016, along with Lionel and Luke. Throughout her time on the show, she was very ive of the contestants, but she also gave them valuable that they could use in order to improve their performances and advance in the competition. For American Idol season 24, the show should bring Katy back, but that doesn't mean that Carrie would have to leave because they could both be judges on the show, and either Lionel or Luke could say goodbye.

Throughout American Idol season 23, Carrie has showcased her silly side, clog dancing with contestant Carson Webb during his audition and dres like Axl Rose during Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night. It would be hilarious to see how Carrie would react to being challenged to a moo-off by Katy, like the one that she had with Luke during American Idol season 22, when they acted like cows until they made each other laugh.

If they judged together, they'd forces in order to help the contestants become the best they could be.

While their personalities are at the opposite ends of the spectrum, Katy and Carrie do have one thing in common: their love and care for the American Idol contestants. Katy and Carrie are both strong women, who would bring some much-needed girl power to the judging table. In American Idol's 23 seasons, only season 12 had a predominantly female judging , with Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban. Unfortunately, Mariah and Nicki were at each other's throats for most of the season, so it wasn't a moment of women's empowerment. However, Katy and Carrie could break that stereotype and prove that women can each other, which is something they've both done throughout their music careers.

Luke & Lionel Have Seemed Checked Out All Season

Lionel and Luke have been American Idol judges since 2018, but their time seems to have run its course. They've seemed checked out all season, repeating the same tired jokes, and giving the same positive to the contestants. They haven't given much valuable advice to the contestants, which indicates that it's time to change the judging . They don't have what it takes to be the lead judges without Katy, even though they are enthusiastic when the contestants do well.

Although Katy was often a ive cheerleader for the contestants, she did offer them guidance when it was needed because she wanted to push them to spread their wings. She's needed on the judging , and could perhaps encourage Carrie to do the same. While Carrie has given some constructive criticism to the contestants, her fear of coming across as mean has caused her to fall into the same pattern as Luke and Lionel. However, if Katy judged with her, she might feel more comfortable giving true critiques because she wouldn't be the only one doing it and wouldn't have to take on the burden of being the mean judge.

American Idol season 24 would benefit from having both Katy and Carrie on the judging . If these two powerful, strong women ed forces, they'd take the show to a whole new level. Although Lionel and Luke have done a fine job over the years, the time has come for them to move on from the show. Perhaps Katy could re the show as a fourth judge, but, at times, there isn't even enough time for just the three judges to speak, so three are enough. Katy and Carrie should both be judges for American Idol season 24.
