American Idol judge Carrie Underwood revealed if she wants to return for season 24 amid signs she's leaving the long-running singing competition series after just one season. For American Idol season 24.
Carrie shared that she thought it would be "cool" to return for American Idol season 24, but she played coy and didn't really give a definitive answer about whether she'd be coming back.
In an E! News interview, Carrie shared that she thought it would be "cool" to return for American Idol season 24, but she played coy and didn't give a definitive answer about coming back. She said, "I had a lot of fun, for sure. I didn't know how I would feel about it. And Luke and Lionel, and the crew, [and] the people who work on the show are just so easy to be around." When asked if she felt that the three of them should be back next season, she replied, "I mean, that would be cool, I think."
I mean, that would be cool, I think.
What Carrie Underwood Playing Coy About American Idol Return Means
Carrie Might Not Want To Continue With American Idol
Carrie's vague answer about returning for American Idol season 24 could simply mean that she isn't allowed to make that announcement yet, either because her contract isn't finalized or because ABC wants to wait until just the right moment to do it. However, it could also indicate that she won't be returning, even though she seemed to enjoy her role on the show. During the American Idol season 23 finale, Carrie, Lionel, and Luke watched with pride as Jamal Roberts was crowned the winner, while John Foster was the runner-up, and Breanna Nix placed third.

However, throughout American Idol season 23, it was often evident that Carrie was uncomfortable in her role as a judge. Although it initially seemed that her previous experience with being a contestant on the show would be an asset to her, it often seemed to hinder her ability to be a critical judge because she knew what it was like to receive negative on national television. This was especially true during the Judges' Song Contest when she became visibly uncomfortable and refused to help winners Luke and Lionel decide who to keep on the show with the Judges' Save.
Our Take On Carrie Saying It Would Be "Cool" To Return To American Idol
Carrie Should Come Back For Another American Idol Season
Although Carrie sometimes seemed to struggle with being an American Idol judge, I would like to see her return for season 24. However, her comment that it would be "cool" to return doesn't give me much hope that it'll happen. Carrie didn't seem overly excited when looking back at her time as an American Idol judge in her comments, and she didn't seem especially interested in returning for another season when she answered the question. She liked the people, but she didn't say much about the experience of being a judge.

What Really Happens When You Win American Idol: Prizes & Contracts Explained
Jamal Roberts won American Idol season 23. Find out every prize he'll take home, including an exciting trip, and what happens next for him.
I think that Carrie should return for American Idol season 24 because, like any job, she was finding her footing in her first year. Now that she's been through it once, she knows what it's like, and she can try it again with some experience behind her. I've been a Carrie fan since her American Idol audition, so it was very special for me to watch her perform on the show again and shine in a different role. I really hope that Carrie returns as a judge for American Idol season 24.
