The fan remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has received another huge update thanks to the creator responsible for the popular mod, CryZENx. Those interested in the fan-made remake have been keeping tabs on the mod as far back as 2018, and the opening of the game along with a full run of the first dungeon were made available in December of that year.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time released in 1998 for Nintendo 64. The game was developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo. It is one of the most popular Legend of Zelda games of all time, releasing to universal acclaim. Since its launch 22 years ago, the game still receives a fair bit of attention, with some gamers developed an online component to the Nintendo classic.

CryZENx has released the sixth major update for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Unreal Engine 4 remake mod with a YouTube trailer to show it off. The update implements a wealth of “tweaks and gameplay improvements, as well as new environments to explore.” The update is 2.9GB in size.

Given the massive amounts of remakes produced over the last few years, it is not a surprise that someone would take it upon themselves to develop a remake for one of the most celebrated Legend of Zelda games ever. Since Nintendo didn’t have plans to craft the remake itself, CryZENx decided to fill that void, inducing nostalgia for many fans who played the original on the Nintendo 64. The change in the game’s art style may ward some veteran players away, but that doesn’t detract from the impressive feat the mod’s developer has achieved.

Regardless of which side of that fence someone finds themselves, they can still look upon the Ocarina of Time remake mod and appreciate the love and care that has gone into something that has a special place in the hearts of franchise fans. Despite the original’s outdated graphics, its lovable characters, immersive story, and simple yet riveting gameplay make it stand out in one of the best gaming eras, one that has been ported to several different platforms and lives on as a popular speed-running choice. With that kind of longevity, it makes sense that CryZENx has dedicated so much time and effort to bringing an updated look to one of the industry's most long-standing titles.
