There is an immense variety of colorful NPCs to meet in The Legend of Zelda, especially Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, but one of these two titles' most helpful NPCs is never actually seen at any point. The often-quirky inhabitants of Hyrule fill the Zelda franchise with a unique charm, whether they be direct allies of Link, innocent civilians, or even enemies of the Kingdom. However, despite the many people that Link has met over the years, not every inhabitant of Hyrule needs to physically appear to help the hero on his quests.
Most of BOTW character is missing in TOTK, one prolific traveler is impossible to meet in both games.
Aurie Taamu Is An Unseen NPC In BOTW And TOTK’s Hyrule
He Is Both A Knowledgeable Writer And The Subject Of Informative Gossip
Aurie Taamu is a notable chef in BOTW and TOTK, having already produced at least two cookbooks. Aurie is also the subject of much gossip in Gerudo Town, due to him being involved in a love triangle with Ashai, teacher of the 'Voe and You' class (where his cookbooks can be found), and the Gerudo jeweler Isha. Sadly for all involved, it seems that neither potential couple emerged from the situation. However, just as notable as Aurie Taamu's life story and accomplishments is the fact that it is impossible to meet him, despite him evidently still living in Hyrule.
The original Japanese text in BOTW actually indicates that Aurie Taamu is dead; however, given the appearance of further notes written by him in TOTK, which reference the caves created by the Upheaval, this appears to have later been retconned.
In TOTK, several of the explorable wells found in Hyrule contain notes left behind by Aurie, recording a series of culinary musings. Whether the chef takes shelter in these, falls in accidentally or some combination of the two is unclear. Regardless, although he is still not one of the weirdest Zelda NPCs, this apparent habit of living in wells is striking, and may even help explain why Link himself never meets Aurie. But even so, Aurie Taamu is still arguably one of BOTW and TOTK's most helpful characters.
Hyrule’s Mystery Chef Gives Link Useful Cooking Advice
Aurie Taamu Provides Helpful Information On A Variety Of Ingredients And Situations
Between his cookbooks and well notes, Aurie Taamu is arguably the best source of information on BOTW and TOTK's cooking mechanics that the games have to offer. For example, in his cookbooks, Aurie hints at the secret benefits of the Blood Moon on cooking, something that can otherwise easily go unnoticed by most people. Similarly, his notes in TOTK provide tips like the fact that food made with a Glowing Cave Fish produces a brighter Glow effect than a
Brightcap , and that such improvements in effect are tied to the used ingredient's rarity.

All Your Zelda: TOTK Cooking Recipes Can Improve With Two Easy Tricks
Players can cook up a variety of powerful recipes in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but two surprisingly simple tricks can make them even better.
Aurie Taamu is ultimately a minor character in BOTW and TOTK, but it is still possible to learn plenty about him. Moreover, by reading through what this unseen character leaves behind, people can learn a great deal about the cooking system in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and how its sequel builds upon it. Given how important meals and elixirs can be, Aurie Taamu is arguably one of the characters that can help Link the most during these games, despite the two never meeting.
