The new anime that will be released later in 2025, Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game The Chronicles, is an innovative way to help fans learn the hidden lore of their favorite cards.

This exciting series will bring to life the story behind many of the most popular decks in the franchise. As such, it would be a perfect opportunity to explore the tale behind some of the most mysterious but forgotten gods in the game: The Sacred Beasts. When looking carefully, the story of these corrupted deities can become quite engaging.

The Sacred Beasts Are More Interesting Than Expected

Fans Might Want To Give These Monsters a Second Chance

First introduced during Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, the Sacred Beasts were presented as powerful wicked entities that caused chaos and destruction everywhere they went. They were a clear reference to Duel Monsters' Egyptian Gods, some of the most iconic cards in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series. Due to this, many fans disregarded them as lesser copies of Yugi’s monsters. The fact that the creatures resembled their Egyptian counterparts did not help their case, causing the Sacred Beasts to be forgotten by most fans once GX ended.

Ignoring the Sacred Beasts might have been a grave overlook by followers of the series, as these dark deities have fascinating abilities and lore. According to the anime, the Sacred Beasts were corrupted entities with the power to control reality around them. While their appearance in the series was brief, being defeated by Jaden at the end of season 1, they did leave a lasting mark on the franchise. They are undoubtedly some of the most powerful creatures, not only in the game, but also in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!.

Yu-Gi-Oh!'s Egyptian God Cards Have Never Looked More Epic Than They Do In New Art

In a stunning new piece of Yu-Gi-Oh! fan art shows the iconic Egyptian God Cards in dazzling detail that has never been seen before.

Even though the anime did little to expand their lore, the cards themselves can tell fans a bit about their complex past. The name of these creatures alone already hints at something deeper and darker happening in the background. Uria, Raviel, and Hamon are the names of three of the most important angels in Abrahamic religions. This implies that the Sacred Beasts were not always the embodiment of chaos that fans met in GX. It is possible that these once-angelic deities were somehow corrupted into beings of darkness and destruction.

Their ing Cards Tell a Grim and Mysterious Story

The Artwork of These Cards Paints an Unnerving Picture

One of the reasons why the Sacred Beasts never achieved the same level of popularity as the Egyptian Gods is their scarce lore in the anime series. While Yugi’s strongest cards had various seasons and special episodes dedicated to their stories, GX’s gods only had brief appearances in the series. Nonetheless, the ing cards for the archetype that have been released over the years greatly help piece together the story behind their corruption. The first, and most important entry, is the Field Spell created for the Sacred Beasts, Fallen Paradise.

The artwork of this card depicts a withering tree, filled with mysterious monsters who look at the player directly. In front of the plant, a single apple can be seen, unharmed and shining. This Field Spell is a reference to the Garden of Eden, one of the most important tales in Abrahamic religions. Nevertheless, the fact that the tree is destroyed implies that things did not go as planned, and an evil entity corrupted the world in which the Sacred Beasts used to live.

The fact that the deck includes various nefarious monsters with effects that summon the beasts indicates that a cult could be behind these events. While not directly related to the archetype, another Field Spell known as The Mount of the Boundless Creator, often included in the strategy, does show special chains designed to capture and control deities. Overall, the lore of these cards points toward the Sacred Beasts once being angelic creatures who were captured and corrupted. A cult or an evil entity wanted to use the Yu-Gi-Oh! characters' overpowered abilities to bring chaos and death into the world.

Yu-Gi-Oh!’s New Anime Has an Opportunity To Expand the Story

An Episode Based on the Sacred Beasts’ Lore Would Be Amazing

Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game The Chronicles is Konami’s latest project, created to tell the stories behind some of the franchise’s most popular and iconic decks. While the cards whose stories will be revealed have not yet been confirmed, the series has a golden opportunity to expand the lore of the Sacred Beasts. The tale of rightful gods who looked over Earth being corrupted into creatures of darkness would make for a truly engaging episode.

One Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist Has a Better Version of Yugi's Heart of the Cards

While Yugi's Heart of the Cards is seemingly unparalleled in Yu-Gi-Oh!, there is one duelist who actually has a better version of that technique.

The entry could go over their time as benevolent deities, reveal the identity of those who transformed them into evil creatures, and explain why they were sealed at the beginning of GX. It would be an incredible way to connect this series with one of the best and most beloved seasons of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. Doing so would also help bring attention to this often-overlooked archetype, proving that the Sacred Beasts are far more than just less powerful versions of the Egyptian Gods once and for all.

The Possibilities of This Episode Happening Are Slim

Uria and Hamon, two of the Sacred Beasts, surrounded by light.

As part of the 25th anniversary of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, Konami released a short Yu-Gi-Oh! trailer that included hidden references to some of the game’s most iconic monsters. While this has yet to be confirmed, the video seemingly served to reveal which cards would receive an episode in the anime series, as Sky Striker and Albaz were also included. One of the many archetypes that was left out of this video was the Sacred Beasts.

Despite how enticing it could be to learn more about these wicked entities, they do not hold the same relevance as other strategies in the game. Other creatures, like one of Kaiba’s strongest cards, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, are far more popular, remaining relevant in the anime and the TCG to this day. While the possibility cannot be discarded yet, the chances of an episode focusing on the Sacred Beasts are almost non-existent.

While the true story of the Sacred Beasts might never be fully revealed, there is no doubt that they are among Yu-Gi-Oh!’s most intriguing cards. Fans who have not given these creatures a chance will not regret exploring their story. At the very least, doing so will give them a chance to enjoy GX, a show widely considered a classic of anime.
