Yoshihiro Togashi's Yu Yu Hakusho is known for its favorable characters and evolving story arcs, but one piece of fan art pays homage to the manga' most epic arc, the Chapter Black Saga.
Yu Yu Hakusho follows the life of Yusuke Urameshi, a sassy delinquent teen who, under unforeseen circumstances, becomes Spirit World's resident Spirit Detective. Tasked with solving Spirit World's problems, Yusuke finds himself battling against paranormal forces and gaining new supernatural powers like the Rei Gun or Spirit Gun, which allows him to shoot energy blasts from his index finger and thumb. The series ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1990 to 1994 and received an anime adaption in 1992. Last year, Netflix also announced a live-action show set to premiere on the streaming platform late next year. As for the manga's popularity, there is one saga that remains one of the most influential parts of the series.
On Instagram, 3D artists Yu Yu Hakusho's heartbreaking end, Togashi later revealed wanting to end the series after the Chapter Black Saga, further reflecting the significance of the arc.
The Chapter Black Saga is the second-longest story arc in Yu Yu Hakusho after the Dark Tournament arc and consists of 40 chapters. The arc further explores Yusuke's morals and powers after the Dark Tournament arc by pitting him against a human villain with supernatural powers that go far beyond any Class B rank demon. Sensui mirrors Yusuke as his opposite but they still share similarities in their determination and ability to ruthlessly defeat demons as Spirt Detectives. Yusuke instantly changes his usual battle strategy to a more cautionary approach after learning of Sensui's plans to destroy all of humanity. This proves how much he's grown since his fight with Toguro and why his battle against Sensui is a pinnacle moment for a new power-up.
The reason why so many manga have tournament arcs is because they involve brilliant character development, power-ups, and colorful new characters for the protagonist to interact with. The Dark Tournament arc and the Demon World Tournament arc convey this perfectly. However, the Chapter Black Saga remains the best arc of Yu Yu Hakusho for its epic main villain and character growth, which are shown in this amazing new piece of fan art.
