Warning! Spoilers ahead for Your Friends & Neighbors' episode 7.Your Friends and Neighbors' episode 7 ends with another major story development that highlights how Cooper's actions are finally starting to catch up with him. In the show's episode 6, things were finally starting to look up for Cooper when he got to spend some much-desired time with his family. He and Mel also got romantically involved, forgetting all about their divorce and underlying issues. Cooper was finally starting to see a glimmer of hope before things started going downhill again.
In the original Apple TV+ show's episode 7, Cooper tries to pretend that he knows nothing about the men who beat him up in episode 6's final moments. He also avoids picking up Elena's calls, believing she might get him in trouble. While he tries to keep his head low, police investigators get closer to finding the truth about Paul's murder. Surprisingly, they find concrete evidence against Cooper and arrest him before the episode's end credits start rolling.
Cooper's Arrest Explained: What The Cops Found In His Car
They Found A Gun In His Car's Trunk
Since episode 1, Your Friends & Neighbors has been foreshadowing that Cooper's car's trunk will land him in trouble. The show has featured many scenes where his trunk unexpectedly opens up and Cooper is forced to shut it himself. In episode 7, the police show up at Cooper's home after many clues point in his direction. They not only learn that Cooper was having an affair with Paul's ex-wife but also catch the wind of the fight he had with Paul the night before his death. With these clues in hand, they try to find concrete evidence in his home.

What Really Happened To Paul In Your Friends & Neighbors?
Your Friends & Neighbors season 1, episode 5's ending confirms a shocking twist about Paul, with the context of his fate still being a mystery.
After turning his place upside down, they initially find nothing at all. However, moments after they step out of his home, they find the trunk of his car open. When they take a closer look at the car, they discover a gun in the trunk, which becomes a solid piece of evidence that establishes Cooper as the perpetrator of the crime. In the episode's final moments, the law enforcers take Cooper in, and he, too, shows no resistance.
Copper did not commit the crime, but it seems likely that his stealing endeavors were directly linked with the murder. As the show will progress, Cooper will likely have to come clean about what he was doing at Paul and Sam's house the night Paul died. If that happens, he might be able to prove his innocence in the Paul case, but might end up facing legal consequences for his previous crimes.
Whose Gun Was That In Cooper's Car?
Cooper Claims It Wasn't His Gun
In Your Friends and Neighbors episode 3's ending moments, Cooper tried to steal Nick's championship ring. However, Nick's maid, Elena, stopped him by pointing her gun at him. What initially could have landed Cooper in serious trouble surprisingly led to an alliance between Elena and Cooper. Given how the show has already established that Elena had a gun, the gun in Cooper's car might have belonged to her. This also raises the possibility that Elena might have killed Paul.
Cooper and Elena had a major fall-out in Your Friends and Neighbors' episode 5 before they parted ways for the night. After leaving Cooper, Elena might have visited Paul and Sam's home to steal something valuable. The show previously established that she knows everything about the people in the neighborhood, suggesting that she also would have known that Sam was out of town. While stealing, she might have unexpectedly encountered Paul and killed him.
Even if Elena did kill Paul, it is hard to explain how the gun ended up in Cooper's car.
Elena also keeps calling Cooper throughout episode 7 after hearing about Paul's murder. This makes it hard not to wonder if she knows something more about the crime or was just concerned about whether Cooper accidentally killed him. Even if Elena did kill Paul, it is hard to explain how the gun ended up in Cooper's car. It seems unlikely that she would have intentionally set him up for the crime.
Why Cooper Feels Relieved After His Arrest
For Once, Cooper Feels Free From The Pressures Of The Outside World
When Cooper rambles about how precious his stolen items are, he often seems reminiscent of the Narrator from Fight Club. These parallels with the David Fincher movie play a crucial role in highlighting how Cooper has been consumed by his luxurious lifestyle and, despite not having the budget to sustain it, he cannot help but hold on to it. This is why he steals from his rich neighbors. He criticizes the people around him for their obsession with materialism and vanity. Yet, he promotes a system he despises by refusing to let go of his fading luxuries and riches.
...When he finally gets arrested and ends up in a cell, he feels liberated from the day-to-day snags of his everyday life.
After losing his job, he even struggles to sleep at night because the thought of ing his family and sustaining his old lifestyle keeps him up. However, when he finally gets arrested and ends up in a cell, he feels liberated from the day-to-day snags of his everyday life. For once, he gets to live in the present moment with little to no material belongings. As the troubles of his future and traumas of his past fade away temporarily, Cooper manages to get some sleep after a long time. However, he will have to deal with a lot of problems in the near future.
Why Choi Suspects Cooper Is Lying
Choi Noticed How Cooper Has Not Been The Same
Choi thankfully survives after his episode 6 accident but grows increasingly suspicious of Cooper. When Cooper visits him in the hospital, Choi even asks him about the men who beat him in the parking lot. Cooper, for obvious reasons, maintains his innocence and claims to know nothing about the men. However, Choi remains unconvinced that Cooper is telling him the truth. He confronts him by saying he has been acting strangely for quite some time. To his dismay, though, Cooper does not budge and maintains his innocence.
Once Choi learns about Cooper's arrest, he will likely be even more intrigued about what Cooper has been up to. Given how Choi has known Cooper for a while, he will likely never believe that he could have killed Paul. However, it would still be interesting to see how Choi will react once he learns the truth about Cooper's criminal activities in Your Friends and Neighbors' future installments.
