WARNING: This article includes SPOILERS from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 1, episode 10.Following one of the biggest new twists in the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's star opens up about how this will affect Peter Parker. While he may not be back on the big screen just yet, the story of the MCU's Peter variant from a different reality just got a major twist in the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 1 finale. During the final moments of the episode, Aunt May is seen visiting none other than Richard Parker himself, Peter's father, in prison, leaving Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on a massive cliffhanger.
During ScreenRant's interview with Hudson Thames, the actor was asked about the Richard reveal in the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 1 finale and how this will change things for the web-slinger in season 2 of the Disney+ series, as well as whether or not Peter knew that his dad is still alive. According to Thames, the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man lead sees Richard's MCU debut as "the most important part of the show," while teasing how this will complicate Peter's journey when the show comes back, stating the following:
Hudson Thames: I haven't been talking too much about it. I didn't even know if I was allowed to, but I think it's almost the most important part of the show is that, I think, informs so much of who Peter is. And also, for Peter Parker, who's such an optimist and so hopeful, to have something that's dark and heavy like that in his life. I think, for me as an audience member too, it's really cool to see how he navigates that and that he eventually is able to deal with it with grace is, I think, a nice moment.
What Hudson Thames' Comments Mean For Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Based on Thames' explanation, it's clear that Richard's MCU debut in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will shake things up in season 2. While the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 1 finale doesn't explain why Richard is incarcerated, it's clear this will have a major impact on the plot. Whether or not Peter is aware that his father is in prison remains to be seen, but if this ends up being new information that he gets in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2, it could be the overarching focal story of the new chapter of the show.
It's also key to that many Spider-Man adaptations for film and TV rarely even feature Peter's parents, which allows this to stand out from previous incarnations. The fact that the MCU is not only giving Spider-Man's father a prominent role, but also one that suggests he may find himself on the other side of the law to Spider-Man suggests that Peter will have some truly personal conflicts to deal with in the series. It also begs the question if Peter's parents in Earth-616 may have a similar fate after what was teased in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 10.
Our Take On Hudson Thames' Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Finale Comments
While time will tell what Thames' comments may mean for the whole series, it will be fascinating to see how the MCU deals with Richard and whether or not Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 could perhaps reveal something about the status of Peter's mom. For the time being, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 has yet to get a premiere date on Disney+. Hopefully, the wait for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 will not be too long as fans wait to learn more about Richard's role in the series.
