Warning! SPOILERS for Young Sheldon's 100th episode.
The 100th episode of The Big Bang Theory appearance sadder. Montana Jordan plays Sheldon's (Iain Armitage) brother in the prequel spin-off, but CBS previously tapped Jerry O'Connell to portray the older version of the character on The Big Bang Theory. It marked Georgie's first physical appearance on the original show where fans learned how his struggles before becoming the successful owner of a big tire chain in Texas.
Georgie's first and only visit to Pasadena happened because of Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) wedding to Amy (Mayim Bialik). The brothers had a falling out to the point that Sheldon couldn't care less if Georgie was going to attend his special day. That's until Mary (Laurie Metcalf) threatened to also not come if her eldest wasn't there. From there, fans learned that Georgie harbored a secret grudge against Sheldon for never thanking him for what he did for their family. Apparently, Georgie took care of both Mary and Missy (Raegan Revord) following the death of George (Lance Barber) all while trying to also navigate his own life. Meanwhile, Sheldon was oblivious about it as he studied abroad.
Now, Georgie's personal story has just gotten sadder. As revealed in Young Sheldon's 100th episode titled "A Solo Peanut, a Social Butterfly and the Truth," he accidentally impregnated his girlfriend. Georgie started dating the older Mandy (Emily Osment) several episodes prior to the 100th, and to convince her to keep on seeing him, he lied about his age, claiming that he's 21 when he's really 17 years old. When he came clean about it, they broke up -- even though it seems like they'll have to be tied to each other even if they're no longer romantically involved, as they're expecting a child. Now, Georgie has to grow up fast. While he still has a couple of years to go before George dies, he has to take on the responsibility of a young father. That's assuming that he and Mandy decide that they will be keeping the baby.
There was no mention of Georgie's kids when he appeared on The Big Bang Theory, although it was revealed that he had two ex-wives. Young Sheldon's 100th episode ended just as Georgie learned about Mandy's situation. The synopsis for the next episode shares that he will this shocking news to his parents, and it's safe to say that they wouldn't be thrilled about it. Mary (Zoe Perry), in particular, would be hysterical about it, while George would be understandably disappointed. This experience would saddle Georgie with adult responsibilities even before he becomes the man of the Cooper household. Viewers of Young Sheldon would have to watch him go through this difficult time. Thankfully, The Big Bang Theory already revealed that he will pull through. If anything, this might be what ultimately drives him to be the successful owner of Mr. Tire, as seen in the original series.
Between this and George's looming cheating scandal followed by his death, Young Sheldon's stories are becoming more mature. This is part of the sitcom's evolution as it reinvents itself to keep fans invested in these characters. Despite the impending drama, expect that the writers will still find a way to make the show as light-hearted and feel good as possible.
Young Sheldon season 5 airs Thursdays on CBS.
