Yellowjackets Hints Melissa Is Connected To Shauna's Stalker – Is She Alive?

Melissa Has A Surprising History With Shauna

Melissa wearing a pink baseball hat backwards in Yellowjackets season 2

A mysterious figure is seen watching Shauna's daughter, Callie Sadecki (Sarah Desjardins), and leaves an envelope addressed to Shauna at their front door with a cassette tape inside of it. The same individual is presumably the person who ominously stands outside a stall in the women's bathroom and leaves a cell phone for Shauna to find. When Shauna calls the restaurant back to see if anyone picked up the phone, and learns that someone did, the episode cuts back-and-forth between this scene and to teenage Shauna and Melissa (Jenna Burgess) in the wilderness.

Yellowjackets Season 1 Ending Explained

Yellowjackets’ shocking season 1 finale answers some of the show’s biggest questions while also raising new mysteries that set up season 2.

The scene in the wilderness sees Melissa watching Shauna, being threatened by her, and then the two of them kissing. This suggests that Melissa may still be alive in the present day and could be Shauna's stalker. The new character played by Hilary Swank has yet to be introduced, but she may be portraying an older version of Melissa. Just as Van and Lottie Matthews (Simone Kessell) were not revealed as present-day survivors later in the series, the same could hold true for Melissa.

What Teen Melissa & Shauna's Romantic Twist Means For Season 3

Melissa Can Help Shauna Gain More Power

Sophie Nélisse pulls out a knife as Shauna in Yellowjackets season 3

In the past timeline, the romantic twist means that Melissa will no longer be relegated to the background in Yellowjackets season 3 and that she can now be an ally to Shauna. The series cleverly acknowledges Melissa becoming a developed character, with Shauna asking if she has actually had a personality all along. Melissa seems to be in awe of Shauna and willing to do anything she says. This kind of loyalty can be instrumental in helping Shauna gain more power and potentially even becoming the group's leader instead of Natalie.

Jenna Burgess made her Yellowjackets debut as Melissa in season 2.

On a more personal level, a relationship with Melissa reveals new aspects of Shauna's character, who previously only ever showed sexual or romantic interest in men like Jeff Sadecki (Warren Kole) and Adam Martin (Peter Gadiot). After losing her baby and her best friend, Jackie Taylor (Ella Purnell), Shauna has put walls up around herself, and has become arguably the scariest and most hardened survivor. Melissa could bring those walls down and make Shauna more vulnerable, which may either help Shauna heal or open herself up to further pain and loss.

Melissa may still be obsessed with Shauna, which would explain why she is stalking her, and why she is leaving cassette tapes and phones for her to find.

Since Shauna and Melissa obviously do not end up together, if Melissa is still alive in the present day, this likely means that their relationship does not end well. Melissa may still be obsessed with Shauna, which would explain why she is stalking her, and why she is leaving cassette tapes and phones for her to find. Shauna comes off as the more dangerous one in the past, but in the present, Melissa may now be the true danger to Shauna and her family.

Who Coach Ben Is Talking To In The Cave & Why He Takes Mari

Coach Ben Is In Self-Preservation Mode

Coach Ben has managed to survive alone in the wilderness and even found a pit filled with crates of nonperishable food. When Mari (Alexa Barajas) falls into this pit, he takes Mari back to the cave where he has been living, the same cave where Javi Martinez (Luciano Leroux) survived during his disappearance. Coach Ben takes Mari because he cannot let her tell the Yellowjackets where he is, as he believes they will kill and eat him. This belief is further solidified when he learns that the cabin burned down and that they blame him.

The kind and caring nature of Coach Ben still seems to be present when he gives Mari hot chocolate, but he becomes more questionable after he is heard arguing with an unknown individual in the dark corners of the cave. It is unconfirmed who Coach Ben is talking to, with the most likely possibilities being Javi's "friend" who told him not to come back, or that Coach Ben is continuing to hallucinate his boyfriend, Paul (François Arnaud). Regardless of the answer, Coach Ben's conversation does not bode well for Mari.

For now, Misty and Walter seem to be breaking up, although their split is unlikely to stick. In Natalie's absence, it is becoming increasingly obvious to everyone except Misty that the other survivors do not care about her, and once she realizes this, she can realize that she and Walter are a good match.

Why Taissa Doesn't Tell Van About The Waiter's Death

Taissa Wants To Protect Van And Their Relationship

When Taissa and Van leave a restaurant without paying, the attempt to spice up their relationship takes a dark turn that only Taissa knows about for now. After returning to the restaurant the next day to pay, Taissa learns that the waiter who chased them had a fatal heart attack on the sidewalk while pursuing her and Van. Taissa does not tell Van about this because she wants to continue enjoying their time together after years apart and does not want to trouble her.

The Man with No Eyes makes an appearance after the waiter's death.

With her terminal cancer diagnosis, Van already has plenty to deal with in her life. Taissa does not want to burden her further and make Van feel guilty for being responsible for the waiter's death. From a more selfish standpoint, Taissa is also scared of losing Van now that they are finally back together and rebuilding the romance that managed to endure despite all the trauma they have experienced. Like all secrets in Yellowjackets, though, the truth will not remain hidden forever, and it is only a matter of time before Van learns what happened.

What Is Going On With Callie & Lottie?

They Form An Unexpected Bond

When they first met in the Yellowjackets season 2 finale, Callie shot Lottie in the shoulder in order to protect Shauna. This makes it surprising to see Callie and Lottie seemingly becoming best friends by the end of season 3, episode 2. Callie and Lottie are drawn to each other for different reasons. For Callie, Lottie offers the most insight she has ever gotten into what happened in the wilderness, as Shauna does not share these kinds of details with her daughter. Lottie's mystique is also appealing to Callie and a refreshing change of pace from her own mother.

Callie and Lottie's newfound friendship is bound to be dangerous.

As for what Lottie sees in Callie, she has been fascinated by her since the moment they met. Instead of being angry at Callie for shooting her, Lottie's first remarks were about Callie's immense power. Now that Lottie has lost the community she built, Callie could become her first new follower. No matter what happens, Callie and Lottie's newfound friendship is bound to be dangerous, and may have consequences beyond anything Shauna or Jeff can imagine in Yellowjackets season 3.
