Everybody loves a good crossover — even those which are just wishful thinking and fan fiction — and to celebrate Valentine's Day Marvel's writers and editors for Star Wars and more. These matches prove that love knows no boundaries or genre restrictions.

The incredible and unexpected pairings come courtesy of AIPT's Valentine's Day interview with the talented minds behind the current range of Marvel’s X-Books. For instance, writer Alex Segura pairs one half of X-Men’s most famous couple, Jean Grey, with Resistance pilot Poe Dameron. The pairing makes sense, because as Segura points out, “Poe has a little of Wolverine and a little Cyclops in him,” which for obvious reasons is the perfect match for the telekinetic redhead. Meanwhile, the influence of Jean could help to stabilize Poe from making brash and wrongheaded decisions.

Crossovers are always great ways for fans to think about their favorite characters and see how they compare with those in other franchises. What are a character's likes and dislikes, their interests, their personalities, who are they usually attracted to, and what role do they fill in their home property? Both X-Men and Star Wars offer an array of interesting comparative characters, as both franchises have their fair share of archetypical rogues, damsels, and dashing heroes. Princess Leia might find love in the arms of other scoundrels like Gambit. Meanwhile, the noble Storm could work well with a true warrior of honor like Obi-Wan Kenobi. Even the sometimes non-human looks of the mutant heroes would not be a hindrance to love in the Star Wars Universe. Nightcrawler would not appear out of place if matched with Twi'lek Jedi Aayla Secura, or the mutant Marrow with Darth Maul. Even villains, like the X-Men's Mister Sinister and Sheev Palpatine, could find a shared interest in cloning to be enough to spark a romance. The possibilities are as entertaining as they are endless.

Writer Jordan Blum also has an unusual pairing, as he puts Warlock, the Technarch member of the New Mutants with B2EMO from the series Andor. In a discussion about loving couples, this match between two technology-based characters might seem strange, but both Warlock and Bee-two are trusted of their respective teams, and go out of their way to help their friends. As Blum puts it, “They both seem very caring… to a fault.” The most intriguing suggestion comes from Jordan D. White, the senior editor for all the X-Titles. His ideal cross-dimensional match consists of Kitty Pryde and Doctor Aphra, Star Wars’ newest and smartest anti-hero.

“Kate is a good person who has more recently toyed with the fringes of the dark side, ing Hellfire, becoming a pirate. Her getting into a relationship with true scoundrel Chelli Aphra would, I think, be very much in character for her… and then Aphra would do something truly wretched to her and break her heart and it would be some real gut-wrenching drama. I bet it would send Kate swinging back fully into moral mode.”

Other non-Star Wars pairings put forth in the AIPT interview present other fun ideas, like letterer Ariana Maher who calls back to the DC/Marvel Amalgam relationship between Jubilee and Tim Drake. Writer Charlie Jane Anders has an interesting pairing of Legion and the Doctor because, "They both know what it’s like to be bigger on the inside." Writer Steve Orlando pairs the tragic figure of Magneto with Star Trek's Kira Nerys due to their similar histories and traumas. "At a basic level, they’d be the couple no one would dare f--k with."

Imagining crossover pairings and possible relationships is one of the great pastimes of modern pop culture, and a very fitting way to celebrate Valentine's Day. However, if you're looking for some expert options on the subject of shipping heroes and villains of Star Wars and X-Men you can't do much better than the experts at Marvel.
