Microsoft is rolling out new customization features for the leaked handheld system. Xbox Series X/S, however, remain generally celebrated machines, and new features are regularly improving the experience.

Straight from Xbox Wire, the Xbox Home (still colloquially referred to as the dashboard) is getting three new customization options. Starting this week – announced on a Friday, so it's unclear when exactly – certain s will be able to hide the system apps and pin favorite game tiles to the recently played row. Coming later is the option to reduce the number of tiles visible in said recently played row. These options will roll out to Xbox Insiders first before getting a wider release in the future.

Three New Settings Will Let You Customize Your Xbox Home Screen

Control What You See In The Recently Played Row

The three new customization options are rather straightforward. The Hide System Apps setting will remove non-game tiles from the home screen's recently played row. These include the Captures and Blu-ray Player apps. In a similar vein, Pin Favorites will let you keep certain apps in the recently played row. "You can now pin up to three of your recently played games or apps directly to the recently played games and apps list," according to Xbox Wire. This will remain near the front of the procession, letting you keep your favorites readily accessible.

Reduce Tile Count is the third setting, and it's still a work in progress. This will present fewer tiles on the recently played row, reducing clutter for those who don't want to see the games they maybe haven't played in a while. There's no indication from Xbox Wire when the Reduce Tile Count option can be expected; it's only listed with "Coming Soon!"

All three of these new Xbox home screen customization options will be available to Xbox Insiders first. The Xbox Insider Program is a public testing environment for new console features and game previews, roughly equivalent to PlayStation's new Beta Program. There's no barrier to entry to the Xbox Insider Program; all you have to do is the Xbox Insider Hub app on your Xbox console (or PC). There you'll get access to features, and can sign up for beta tests.

The only risk is potentially damaging console updates, like one that caused factory resets a couple of months ago. Such incidents are few and far between, though, and anyone ingrained in the Xbox ecosystem will likely find some interesting use out of the Insider Program. You'll be able to try out these new Xbox customization options first and provide on how well they work if you feel like it.
