The latest X-Men era - From the Ashes - has finally begun, and Marvel has revealed more details about the three new mutants who will be starring in Exceptional X-Men, alongside Kate Pryde and Emma Frost. Axo, Bronze, and Melee are all young mutants who need training in controlling and properly using their unique mutant abilities, forcing the exhausted Pryde to come out of retirement as a teacher for the powerful youth.

The X-Men's Krakoan Era has ended, spreading mutantkind across Earth to reintegrate into human society, which is already causing tensions in the city of Chicago, where Exceptional X-Men takes place.

Exceptional X-Men, written by Eve L. Ewing with art from Carmen Carnero, is one of the three flagship titles releasing as part of From the Ashes and will follow Kate and Emma as they train Axo, Bronze, and Melee into full-fledged X-Men. Shared by AIPT, the "Cerebro Scan" files of the three new mutants reveal their full names, mutant powers, and history as young mutants.

Melee, Axo, & Bronze Will Become The Newest New Mutants

Their mutant abilities are all unique and powerful

Bronze Exceptional X-Men featured image - Trista doing heart hands and unleashing power in bronze form

The first preview for Exceptional X-Men #1 revealed the impressive powers of Bronze, real name Trista Marshall, who is forced to stand up to a bouncer at a club after he refuses her entry. Trisha is dealing with "the hardships of being a mutant" in a post-Krakoa world, until she runs into Kate Pryde, who takes the young mutant under her wing. Kate is the perfect mentor for Bronze, who can turn her skin into an unknown metallic substance - nearly as durable as adamantium - and turn this metal into dangerous whip-like weapons.

X-Men Officially Debuts THE OUTLIERS - New Team of "Wild Mutants"

Axo, real name Alex Luna, has the power of "emotion detection and manipulation," and his flesh acts as a mood ring, changing colors to match the emotional auras of those around him. Apparently, Alex's emotion-based powers are beginning to evolve in ways he doesn't understand, prompting him to reach out to Kate and Emma, even though he prefers his own company over others.

Finally, there is Melee, real name Thao Tran, who has the powerful defensive ability of "intangibility and invisibility." Covers featuring Thao reveal she is incredibly buff - hence the name Melee - which could be because she feels insecure about her mutant power. However, Kate Pryde will hopefully teach Thao how to use intangibility offensively.

The Designs For The Exceptional X-Men Set Them Apart

Most X-Men teams have matching uniforms

The X-Men are known for their matching team-based uniforms, as opposed to heroic teams like the Avengers who all have unique costumes that are core to their solo comics. Thankfully, the From the Ashes era of the X-Men allows the mutants to follow the same pattern as the Avengers, with team wearing similar but not identical outfits. As always, Emma Frost will wear her all-white ensemble, while the goth Axo dons ripped black jeans and a leather jacket. Kate, Melee, and Bronze all wear brightly colored costumes with the Exceptional X-Men logo, which match their personalities, powers, and history perfectly.

With many mutants living on Krakoa within the White Hot Room, now separated from Earth-616, Marvel is introducing a whole slew of new mutants, like the exceptional Bronze, Melee, and Axel. With epic new costumes, exciting mutant powers, and two incredible X-Men mentors, these young mutant fighters will become the next generation of X-Men in no time at all.

Exceptional X-Men #1 from Marvel Comics debuts on September 4th, 2024.
