Potential spoilers for X-Men Legends 5 ahead!

The early 1990s the third Summers brother as well as the return of Louise and Walter Simonson. Now, Peter David gets his shot, teaming with artist Todd Nauck to tell a new story set during X-Factor's '90s heyday.

Shortly after 1991’s Muir Island Saga, the original of X-Factor: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Archangel, Beast, and Iceman, decided to return to the X-Men, the team they helped found. Afterward, a new X-Factor team was born, consisting of Havok, Polaris, Strong Guy, Quiksilver, Jamie Madrox, and Wolfsbane. This new X-Factor worked closely with the government under the direction of agent Val Cooper. The team’s adventures were written by superstar writer Peter David, and the run is still fondly ed by fans for mixing mutant action with unforgettable character moments, and now fans can return to this era in a special unlettered preview for X-Men Legends #5.

The short preview offers few details about the story, other than Doctor Doom’s involvement, though readers do see Quiksilver and his wife Crystal in their house on the moon, as well as Strong Guy and Madrox charging into action. The final page shows a battered and bruised (and naked) Strong Guy, along with an army of Madrox clones, meeting up with Havok and Polaris. Take a look at the preview pages below:

Readers will unfortunately have to wait until July 21 to read the full issue, but the early '90s X-Factor team is back in action, under the guidance of the writer who made them great. Nauck’s art perfectly captures the era as well, showcasing these characters in all their glory. The main question is: how exactly is Doctor Doom involved? Marvel has revealed that a mutant hostage situation is play a part in this arc, as will the Latverian embassy - but how are the two connected? Will X-Factor be able to resolve the situation without an international incident?

Peter David’s run on X-Factor is fondly ed by fans today, and part of the reason was the depth he brought to characters like Havok, Polaris, and Jamie Madrox. This preview takes fans back to that era one more time. X-Men Legends #5 is written by Peter David, with art by Todd Nauck, colors by Rachelle Rosenberg, and letters by Joe Caramagna.
