In the preview to Phoenix #5 – written by Stephanie Phillips and art by Alessandro Miracolo – After Jean Grey’s battle with Gorr the God Butcher, she encounters Eternity, the cosmic embodiment of the Marvel Universe, who tells her she can go beyond the Phoenix, saying to not think in “ of living and dying…instead of becoming,” and to become “the soul of all that is,” hinting at Jean foregoing her humanity to become a god-like being.

As the weight of the universe grinds Jean down, whether the Phoenix can achieve her final form is an open question.

With Phoenix being the embodiment of rebirth, it makes sense that Jean Grey’s next evolution would be a being of creation, but should Jean choose to accept her ultimate power, there will be dire consequences. Jean could lose herself similar to how she did with the Phoenix;, she is also accruing enemies, as the Galactic Council and Gladiator remain weary of the Phoenix. Should Jean exercise the pinnacle of her power, they will see it as a danger to the universe. Yet if she rejects her newfound limit, it could leave her susceptible to threats like Thanos.
