Season 4 is finally coming but what happened during Killjoys) and is based on the comics by Beau Smith. Melanie Scrofano plays Wynonna Earp – the great-great-granddaughter of legendary frontiersman Wyatt Earp. On her 27th birthday, Wynonna reluctantly returns to her hometown of Purgatory to inherit the family curse which entails blasting Revenants (reincarnated outlaws killed by Wyatt) back to hell with trusty revolver Peacemaker. Wynonna also battles the other demonic beings drawn to the cursed territory of the Ghost River Triangle in which Purgatory resides, with the help of sister Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), government agent Dolls (Shamier Anderson) and Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon). Yes, that Doc Holliday.

Season 1 focused on Wynonna and Co’s battles against head Revenant Bobo Del Rey (Michael Eklund) and uncovering the mystery surrounding the abduction of her older sister Willa. In Wynonna Earp season 2, Wynonna gave birth to a baby girl (fathered by Doc) before sending her to live with relatives to keep her safe. The first two seasons were wild but season 3 was a roller coaster. The big bad last season was Sheriff Clootie, aka the demon Bulshar who placed the curse on the Earp family. He came to town to lay claim to the Garden of Eden – which also happens to reside in the Ghost River Triangle – and destroy humanity. The show also bid farewell to Agent Dolls who died battling a demon, Doc turned into a vampire and season 3 introduced Wynonna’s new love interest, Charlie.

Wynonna Earp's season 3 finale consisted of two back-to-back episodes – “Daddy Lessons” and “War Paint” – that were jam-packed with revelations and cliffhangers. Wynonna’s now ex-fling Charlie was dead after vampire Doc snacked on him but Waverly was somehow able to bring him back to life. Turns out Charlie is really Julian, an angel the Earp sisters’ mother had an affair with and is Waverly’s biological father. Waverly is, therefore, half-angel which may explain why she was able to bring Charlie/Julian and later Doc back to life. Sadly, Julian is killed by Bobo Del Rey before the newfound father-daughter duo can get properly acquainted.

Meanwhile, Bulshar turned Peacemaker into a sword and took some of Wynonna’s blood to perform a ritual that broke the Earp family curse, vanishing the Revenants and leaving Wynonna powerless. Wynonna’s blood also granted Balshar the mortality needed to enter the Garden of Eden. Luckily, half-angel Waverly named her sister the guardian of the Garden of Eden which gave her the power to wield the Peacemaker sword and kill Bulshar before he entered the Garden.

The danger continued in Wynonna Earp's season 3 finale though as a terrified Waverly got dragged up the stairway to the Garden of Eden by some creepy looking vines, suggesting it’s not paradise after all. Doc followed Waverly and was able to enter the garden, meaning he might be mortal now. Wynonna headed back into Purgatory only to find the town deserted and the name ‘Valdez’ mysteriously scratched on a wall of the Earp homestead. The only Purgatory resident left other than Wynonna was Sheriff Nedley who she teamed up with to get everybody back.

With the Earp family curse broken, the ending of Wynonna Earp season 3 reset the entire premise of the show and left viewers with a ton of unanswered questions. Hopefully, we’ll get some answers when season 4 premieres in 2020.
