John Cena and Cody Rhodes successfully managed to build hype for their WrestleMania 41 match across three episodes of WWE Raw during he plans to "ruin wrestling" by capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship, and why he views Rhodes as an undeserving, inauthentic world champion. But there's one thing Cena still hasn't explained: why did Cena align himself with The Rock?
Cena's long-awaited heel turn kicked off at the Elimination Chamber when Rock demanded Rhodes "sell his soul" and become "The Final Boss'" champion. Rhodes rejected the offer, Rock made a gesture to Cena, and the 16-time world champion unloaded a vicious attack on "The American Nightmare." But Rock hasn't been on WWE TV since then. And, if the latest reports are to be believed, Cena won't be back in front of a live crowd again until WrestleMania 41.
Cody Rhodes Finally Name-Dropped The Rock On Raw
Rhodes Attempted to Finally Tie Cena's Rants Back Into Their Original Story
The last in the trilogy of Rhodes vs. Cena promos took place on this week's WWE Raw in London. During their war of words, Rhodes finally managed to loop The Rock back into the story by bringing up the original "sell your soul" storyline.
"There are two of us standing in this ring right now. And what I'm about to ask you might punch a giant hole in all that logic you just threw up and it's quite simple. Between you and I, which one of us sold out to The Rock?" Rhodes asked.
Cena, however, brushed Rhodes' point away and went right back to trying to tear down "The American Nightmare," though the line "I make empires for billionaires" could eventually be linked back to The Rock. The segment ended with Cena staring up at the lights after getting hit with a Cross Rhodes.
What's the Plan For The Rock at WrestleMania 41?
Expect Some Involvement From The Final Boss
There are still a few weeks between now and WrestleMania 41, and it's entirely possible that Cena, Rock, or both could appear on either WWE Raw or WWE SmackDown once the company is back from the ongoing European tour. And while it would be strange to not have Rhodes, Cena and Rock all in the ring together at some point before WrestleMania, it's not entirely necessary.

WWE Reportedly Turned Down The Rock’s Pitch To Turn Cody Rhodes Heel Before John Cena
Despite WWE's Elimination Chamber changing wrestling history, turning John Cena heel reportedly wasn't The Rock's original plan.
It's possible Rock's absence was a deliberate strategy, letting him sink into the background long enough to where an appearance at WrestleMania 41 will feel like a surprise rather than an inevitability. Whether or not The Rock will personally ensure Cena wins his 17th world championship by beating Rhodes in Las Vegas remains to be seen.
