When Jey Uso won the 2025 WWE Men's Royal Rumble, it was a watershed moment in his career. The man known for being half of the promotion's most celebrated tag team ever had truly broken the barriers, and he had become a prime-time player all on his own. He punched his ticket to a World Title shot at WrestleMania 41. Finally, Jey Uso truly earned his nickname, accomplishing his goal of becoming the 'Main Event'. Or has he?
While WWE outright stated that the winner of the 2025 Royal Rumble match would go on to main event WrestleMania 41, this turned out not to be true. Uso will still take on Gunther for the gold, but they will be a little lower on the card on Night One. The CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins match will be the main event. In a recent vlog entry on the WWE YouTube channel, Uso mentioned the spot of his match on the card, saying that it would be an honor to have the final match, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. It's all about winning the title and setting the tone.
Jey Uso Says He's Happy With His Place on WrestleMania 41's Card
He Will Be Looking To Gain His First Singles World Title In Las Vegas
A vlog recently posted by WWE gave the audience a glimpse into the final countdown for Jey as he arrived in the desert to try and fulfill his destiny. In it, he discusses why, in the grand scheme of things, he's just glad to have this opportunity at WrestleMania.
"Obviously, I wanted to main event." Uso said in the video package. "We know that's not going to happen, which is okay with me. I feel like if you are on a WrestleMania card, period, Uce. That's something big. It took me almost 10 years to even get on the main card, so I'm humbled by this."
Uso also added that if he couldn't go on last, he would prefer to go on first on Night 1, and set off the fireworks at The Show of Shows. With his presence, he would certainly be pro wrestling's ultimate opening act. "[Now] I just want to go on first, if I can. Night one... to set the tone."
Setting the Tone of the Show Is Almost as Important as the Main Event
Uso's Electric Energy Will Certainly Boost Any Part Of The Card
Jey Uso's charisma is catching, and his aura is obvious. There's no other way to say it than he's over with the audience. He also has the underdog element going into this match, which will make him the emotional favorite. There's no doubt that his entrance will amplify the acoustics at Allegiant Stadium. Despite all the criticism and controversies that surrounded this feud, Jey has a legion of loyal fans who are buying into his story and are ready to see him triumph at WrestleMania 41.
The story of Jey Uso and Gunther is being played out like a David vs. Goliath type of storyline. The challenger has been positioned as a long shot - the guy who shouldn't be there - against a beast who's so good at what he does in the squared circle that they call him The Ring General. That's what makes this match so intriguing. Can the former tag team star break through the proverbial glass ceiling and defeat a seemingly unbeatable champion?
Jey said something really meaningful during the vlog. It's a common opinion among performers that, if you can't main event a show, the next best spot on the card is the opening match. Setting the tone is as important as closing out the show, and Jey and Gunther have been tasked with this prestigious role. Between the electrifying entrance and the crowd connection Jey has, and the mastery of the ring Gunther shows, this match truly has the potential to start WrestleMania 41 on a high note.
