Crossovers between pop culture and WWE aren’t new, but Travis Scott alongside The Rock and John Cena took it to a new level by attacking Cody Rhodes. From the first WrestleMania featuring Cyndi Lauper to more recent examples of Bad Bunny having a main event level street fight at Backlash 2023, celebrities are often welcomed into the WWE universe with open arms. Social media star Logan Paul enjoyed his time making a guest appearance so much, he went on to sign a 'multi-year' deal with the company and continues to compete at major events in addition to all his other ventures.
The latest iconic crossover in WWE has been the appearance of Travis Scott. Previously appearing on the debut of WWE Raw on Netflix, the hip-hop star's song '4x4' serves as the theme song for the show. This past Saturday, Scott returned to professional wrestling to appear alongside Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in the closing segment of the Elimination Chamber event. This time, he wouldn't simply be making an entrance nor just "burning sage" as WWE commentator Pat McAfee refers to it. Instead, Scott found himself involved in the biggest WWE storyline moment of potentially all time.
Travis Scott ed The Rock & John Cena at WWE Elimination Chamber
He Was On Hand For Cena’s History Making Heel Turn
Making a big entrance in the closing moments of WWE Elimination Chamber, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson appeared in his Final Boss character alongside Travis Scott. The rap star accompanied Johnson to the ring and was on-hand for a wild series of events that most fans never saw coming. The Rock was awaiting a response from Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes regarding whether he would become ‘his’ corporate champion.
While Rhodes would make his own headlines, telling The Rock to “go f**k yourself,” as his official reply - the champion’s triumph was short-lived. Instead, John Cena went on to turn heel on Rhodes, attacking him as The Rock watched on. While Cena would do most of the damage, Travis Scott found himself involved in the beat down as well. Delivering a thunderous smack to the side of Rhodes’ head, he indeed ended up getting bloody as the attack left Rhodes gushing on the mat.
The Rock Told Travis Scott To ‘Make It Count’
Travis Scott Was Hoping To Get ‘Bloody’
In the post-Elimination Chamber press conference, The Rock was asked directly about Travis Scott’s involvement and whether it was leading to a future match. While The Rock affirmed that there were future plans (potentially “months’ down the line”) for Scott to feature in the ring, he was aware before they made their entrance that the hip-hop star wanted to be directly involved in the scene.
Johnson said:
“He wanted to get his hands bloody… I whispered to him as he was going out [to the ring]. I said, ‘if you’re gonna get your hands bloody, make it count. Make it count. He slapped the shit of Cody tonight. He was really, really hyped up.
“He loves the business. We get guys and girls like that who want to come in and who are already tapping in culture and disrupting culture in their own cool way. Maybe they want to sit and enjoy, maybe they want to be on camera.
“But then some want to get involved and then some, like Travis, deeply want to get involved. And that’s what you saw tonight.”
Scott certainly got deeply involved, potentially inflicting a legitimate injury on the company's top star, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. The initial low blow from Cena knocked him down; however, a subsequent attack saw several violent spots from John Cena to the beloved champ before Travis Scott got any shots in.
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes Was Reportedly Legitimately Injured
Reported ‘Busted Ear Drum’ & ‘Black Eye’ From Travis Scott
It seems that Travis Scott really took The Rock's advice and did indeed, 'make it count' in his part of the attack on Rhodes. According to a report by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the interaction led to a legitimate injury for Cody Rhodes.
On his Wrestling Observer Radio, pro wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reported that there was a legitimate injury to Rhodes that arose from the event.
Meltzer said:
“Cody got hurt. I’m pretty sure it was Travis Scott that did it.
“I’ve heard he had a busted eardrum and a black eye.”
While neither Rhodes nor WWE have confirmed the report, Rhodes was reportedly taken to the "hospital" after the events that closed WWE Elimination Chamber, as is typical for WWE on-air reports regarding major storylines. However, it is very possible that Rhodes will get some shot at revenge in the near future - if another report regarding Travis Scott's future WWE status is to be believed.
In a separate report from Fightful Select, it was noted that Travis Scott is reportedly planned to take part in "actual matches" in the future, going on to share another intriguing detail for fans of the hit maker. Scott has reportedly been training at a WWE legend's wrestling school in preparation for his future in-ring work. With The Rock also commenting in the post-Elimination Chamber press conference that WWE is planning storylines "months in advance," it is entirely likely Travis Scott won't be back for a bit.
