Phil Brooks, a.k.a. CM Punk in the WWE, is trying to bring to Netflix a fan-favorite series that Starz canceled two years ago. Outside the wrestling ring, Brooks has enjoyed a taste of the Hollywood spotlight by starring in movies like 2024's Let's Start a Cult. The former WWE Champion recently partook in his first WrestleMania main event, but still has loftier ambitions of returning to another scripted series.

In an interview with Deadline, the WWE Superstar revealed that he's actively petitioning to resurrect Starz's Heels for a Netflix revival. When asked how he balances the life of a professional wrestler with his career as an actor, Phil Brooks had this to say:

It’s a lot easier now. It was harder back in the day because wrestling was the lion’s share of what I did, and I wasn’t allowed to do other stuff. I have pre-existing relationships and projects I work on that are grandfathered into my contract. I typically do Monday Night Raw live on Netflix every week. But if I need to dip out for two weeks to shoot an independent film, I can always do that. We’re trying to petition Netflix to do a third season of Heels.

Despite being praised by fans and critics, Heels was canceled in late 2023 after two seasons. While some have held out hope for a return to another network, Netflix might be the right home for Heels at the perfect time as Netflix consolidates its relationship with WWE.

The Streaming Giant Already Owns the Rights

Heels was a TV show that starred Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig as Jack and Ace Spade, two brothers working out of their late father's Duffy Wrestling League in Georgia as they try to reconcile real-life tensions in and out of the ring. Brooks, credited as CM Punk, had a recurring role on the TV show's ing cast as Ricky Rabies, someone best described as a journeyman in the pro wrestling industry. His guest appearances in the first season were considered great enough to warrant a regular spot for the second season.

It's safe to say that Brooks enjoyed his stint enough on the show that he wants to revisit it. Bringing the show to Netflix is not unlikely as it seems, seeing as in 2024, Netflix acquired Heels, allowing them to make reruns of the show readily available to stream on the service. In addition, it was reported that contractually, Netflix has the option to renew the series for a third season. The potential for a third season, however, depends largely on Netflix's interest and the availability of past stars like Stephen Amell, who is currently the lead star of NBC's Suits LA.

A Third Season of Heels Would Be Perfect for Netflix

Beyond just a genuine interest in returning to Heels, it makes perfect sense for Phil Brooks to want to bring Heels to Netflix when the platform is the home of WWE Monday Night Raw. WWE's move to Netflix in 2025 has largely been deemed a success, and to capitalize, Netflix has been airing additional wrestling programs like the WWE: Unreal, bringing audiences into the show's writing room. Netflix is quickly gaining a fanbase of wrestling fans thanks to WWE, so it's only logical for them to start airing as much wrestling content as possible, starting with a Heels revival.
