Chelsea Green secured her spot in WWE history by becoming the very first Women's United States Champion, an accolade shared with the likes of Pat Patterson, Finn Balor, and The British Bulldog. With a career spanning over ten years, and filled with roadblocks, injuries, releases, and re-gs, Green's win is a major accomplishment in her career, and shows that WWE is all in on her being a leader in the women's division.
On the first Saturday Night's Main Event after its current resurrection, Chelsea Green defeated Michin to become the inaugural Women's United States Champion, after a tournament that featured some of the best women's talent in WWE, including Bayley, Bianca Belair, and Naomi. Green told ScreenRant that she felt the love from the live crowd that night, something she says performers don't always feel at times.
It’s definitely a culmination of everything I’ve ever done in ten years. I think that the crowd felt that, too. That’s why they were so incredible. The whole match, they were incredible. I just felt the love from the minute I walked out there to the minute I walked back, and it’s really surreal. You know, as a wrestler, you don’t always feel the love, it ebbs and flows.
Green Says She Has Input in Her Creative Approach
Another Sign Of The Triple H Era
An integral part of the SmackDown roster, Chelsea Green has worked hard to position herself as a must-see Superstar, and the fruits of her labor have manifested as WWE gold. During a wide-ranging conversation during the 2025 Royal Rumble Media Event in Indianapolis, Green gave her thoughts on the state of the women's locker room, her championship win, and the new partnership with TNA Wrestling.
A fan favorite despite her heel tactics, Green has created an in-between-like character that you can't help but root for, in spite of all the evil deeds she may engage in. A dark horse from the beginning of the tournament, her win was the perfect first "you deserve it" moment of 2025, complimenting a decorated ten-plus-year career.
On a recent appearance on "The Sports Agents" show, Green commented on the positive changes brought forth by Paul "Triple H" Levesque when he took over creative from Vince McMahon in 2022.
I come to work, I love my job, I feel safe, I feel ed. Triple H makes women specifically feel absolutely equal to men. We are out there main eventing WrestleManias now, something that unfortunately that previous era didn't get to experience but they set the table for us and now we're sitting at it. We're enjoying these amazing meals, and I couldn't be happier.
During her conversation with ScreenRant, Green was asked whether that also bled into her creative approach, to which she said her approach has never wavered when it comes to her ideas and what's best for her character.
Well, something about me is that I’m not afraid of anyone, so I’ve been pitching since I was born. I’ve been giving crazy ideas. You know, I’ve gotten a lot of slack from it in the past, but I think now people appreciate it because things are working, right? Now I’ve given these ideas and things are actually coming to fruition. A lot of what I do is a little bit of - a combination of me, a combination of the writers, a combination of people [in the] outside world that gives me ideas and I think that’s the beauty of my character. It kind of goes from week to week, changing, evolving, and being silly.
Green's current "Karen" character, which she says is derived from "The Hot Mess" persona utilized throughout her career, became popular with the fans quickly and allowed her to gain traction in the division upon her return. With her increased popularity with WWE and its fans, it's no surprise that the creative team would welcome her input on the character and approach, especially as she begins to build her place as the Women's United States Champion and as the dynamics of WWE change under Triple H's regime.
Green Would Love To See A "Winner Takes All" Match With TNA
She Has A Backup Plan, Too
With the buzz surrounding the WWE and TNA partnership, announced in January and will see both WWE and TNA sharing talent on different events, many Superstars from both companies have discussed their wish list of opponents. Green didn't hesitate to tell ScreenRant her dream match-up, one that involves both her title and one from TNA.
I would love a winner takes all, me vs. Masha [Slamovich]. However, if I can’t do that, I would do something with Rosemary. We’ve met quite a few times in the ring, so I would love to bring it back to me and Rosemary.
Slamovich, the current TNA Knockouts Champion, has yet to make an appearance on WWE programming under the new partnership, but with the previous Knockouts Champion, Jordynne Grace, making multiple appearances with WWE while under TNA contract, it's plausible to see her appear on programming soon. However, Rosemary and Green have a long history together, and with Rosemary already making an appearance on NXT this past August, we may see both of Green's dream matches come true.
