An extremely talented Wordle players can cheat a perfect score rather easily, few players can build a robot that solves the daily puzzle for them.
By marrying simple puzzle mechanics with a social solution, Wordle has quickly become a pop culture sensation. The word game gives players six chances to guess a five-letter word, with each failed guess revealing which letters are actually in the solution. This makes Wordle a game of trial and error, with scores based on how quickly players were able to reach the solution. The puzzle's daily solution is also the same for every single player, adding a social aspect to the game by allowing players to help each other or show off their score. A Wordle fail from Twitch streamer Pokimane, for example, shows how the game can be even more fun when played among others.
To make the beloved word puzzle a bit easier, Reddit iamflimflam1 has built an amazing 3D printer robot that can read and solve Wordle. The process of creating such a device is obviously complicated, but it apparently involved the use of both a 3D printer and a miniature RaspberryPi computer. The Duet RepRap V3 printer was chosen for its interface, with the RaspberryPi's image processing ability allowing the robot to read the Wordle page. The machine is able to recognize colors, allowing it to understand letter placement, and an in-depth source code lets it actually solve the daily Wordle challenge.
Creating a robot that can play Wordle is extremely impressive, and other fans have used their own technical knowledge to change the daily puzzle experience. For example, a coder recently ported Wordle to the Nintendo Game Boy, making John Wardle's creation fully functional on the 1989 handheld. The 8-bit console's small ROM size does limit the project, however, with selected words experiencing a very high error rate. However, those who appreciate retro gaming systems are still likely to enjoy the skilled programmer's Wordle port.
With its addicting gameplay and social nature, Wordle has quickly become a popular culture staple. Players have recently found innovative new ways to experience the word game, and iamflimflam1's 3D printer robot is undoubtedly the most advanced way to solve the puzzle. The hardware and software needed to make a robot solve Wordle is extremely complex, but the robot's inability to complain about the day's solution makes the build worth the effort.
