Jamal Campbell's Zatanna #1 kicks off the titular magician's mystical new era. The Lady White brings Zatanna's crew to the Astral Plane and traps one of them within a Wild West-inspired painting, where a cowboy holds him captive. To free him, she casts a spell that creates a magical lasso, which she uses to toss the Lady White's hand aside.

Zatanna has performed binding spells before, but here, she creates her own lasso that can bind the Lady White’s hand and move it out of her way. Creating magical constructs elevates Zatanna not only to Wonder Woman's level, as she can generate a lasso that's just as magical as hers, but also to the level of a Green Lantern who similarly forms constructs with a Power Ring. This feat demonstrates just how overpowered Zatanna is, since there doesn't seem to be any limit to what spells she can pull off. Moreover, this lasso is far from the only power-up Zatanna has at her disposal.

In this exemplary debut outing, Zatanna stretches her powers even further beyond her perceived limits when the Lady White attempts to prevent her from using magic. A giant white hand gets clasped over her mouth and takes away her ability to speak. Ordinarily, Zatanna would become powerless without her voice, since DC Universe's ladies to stand beside Wonder Woman at the top.

Of course, at the end of the day, there's no reason to pit these two Wonder Woman possesses raw Amazonian strength in addition to her lasso, while Zatanna's magic allows her to perform astounding feats that no one else can. Together, they make a duo that most enemies would be helpless against, and the Justice League is better off with them in it. Wonder Woman may not be guaranteed the position of DC's strongest woman anymore, but Zatanna's abilities don't discount her own merits.
