The eternal debate of Wonder Woman often divides fans, and while the outcome of their potential clash remains uncertain, the majority of fans usually feel comfortable with the claim that Kal-El is the stronger hero of the two. However, Wonder Woman has shaken the foundation of this claim with a strength feat that SHOULD be impossible, according to DC lore.
The Sovereign is using the Lasso of Lies against Diana as he attempts to brainwash her into submitting to him and believing that her place is below a man.
Wonder Woman #8 by Tom King and Daniel Sampere reveals Diana's capture and incapacitation by her newest adversary, the Sovereign, the secret king of the United States of America. This is a startling development, considering most villains wouldn't be able to keep Wonder Woman contained for long, let alone break the Amazon Princess.
However, the Sovereign is using the Lasso of Lies against Diana as he attempts to brainwash her into submitting to him and believing that her place is below a man. Yet, in true Wonder Woman fashion, Diana breaks the bonds of the Lasso of Lies, a feat that should be impossible.
Wonder Woman achieving a feat of strength that even Superman couldn't manage would establish her as DC's strongest hero.
Wonder Woman Does the Impossible and Breaks the Bonds of the Lasso of Lies
Before Diana breaks free of the Lasso of Lies, Wonder Woman #8 confirms the strength and properties of the lasso through a somewhat hallucinated conversation between Diana and her late mother, Hippolyta. During their exchange, Diana states, “The rope is ours. It will not be broken.” This confirms two crucial points: the belief in the lasso's unbreakable nature and its Amazonian origins. Therefore, the Lasso of Lies, coming from the same ilk as Diana’s unbreakable Lasso of Truth, means that it should be just as indestructible. Hence, Diana's ability to shatter it is an incredible display of her power.
Operating under the assumption that the Lasso of Lies possesses equal strength to the Lasso of Truth, Diana's ability to break its bonds would make her the strongest hero in the DCU. Her primary competitor for this title, Superman, has been depicted on multiple occasions as being effectively restrained by the Lasso of Truth. One notable instance occurs in volume two of Tom Taylor’s Dark Knights of Steel, where Kal-El struggles unsuccessfully to break free from the rope's grasp. Therefore, Wonder Woman achieving a feat of strength that even Superman couldn't manage would establish her as DC's strongest hero.
Diana Prince Is the Ultimate Badass in Tom King’s Wonder Woman Run With Hard Hitting Dialogue
Wonder Woman #8 could easily bear the alternate title of “Diana Being a Badass for 22 Pages Straight.” Not only does this issue showcase her successful resistance against the influence of the Lasso of Lies and her subsequent liberation from it, but it also highlights Diana’s indomitable spirit through some hard-hitting dialogue. One notable instance occurs when Diana demonstrates her refusal to submit by stating, “I want to feel your Adam’s Apple on my palm. As I push,” to the Sovereign. Thus, this solidifies Wonder Woman as both DC’s strongest hero and also its most badass.
