The two best hunters at  Judgment Day event. Somehow these two iconic hunters have never fought before, and this battle may determine who is truly Marvel's best hunter.

Kraven the Hunter is one of Spider-Man's oldest enemies, a staple in his large rogues gallery, and was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 (1964) by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko as a big game hunter who hopes to defeat Spider-Man to prove he is the best hunter in the world. Kraven became one of Peter Parker's most well known enemies after the success of 1987's Kraven's Last Hunt storyline, which has a popular spiritual successor in 2019's Hunted. Although Kraven claims that defeating Spider-Man would earn him his claim as the world's best hunter, it seems more likely that him being able to defeat Wolverine, a world class tracker and animalistic fighter, would truly bestow this title upon him.

The highly anticipated fight between Sergei and Logan will come in the pages of X-Force #30 - written by Benjamin Percy with art by Robert Gill - which will take place following the immediate fallout of the massive revelations in this summer's Judgment Day event. Kraven the Hunter will become involved in the fight, which will remain a big surprise, seeing as he is not part of the Avengers, Eternals, or X-Men. When asked more about X-Force #30 Percy had this to say:

"Since the dawn of Krakoa, the mutants have faced many threats - assassins, political rivalries, telefloronic infections, sea monsters, interdimensional wars, A.I. adversaries, time-traveling troublemakers (I could go on) - but there has always been the nagging sense that they might have a way out.

Maybe Moira could reset the timeline or maybe death could be solved through resurrection or or or. But now - with Judgment Day - we've entered a whole other category of crisis. This is an extinction-level event. Not just for the mutants, but mankind. It's always fun to play with a thorny, high-stakes situation like this. Doubly so when my favorite Marvel villain - Kraven - is involved. X-Force is going to have its hands full."

AXE Judgment Day Hunt for X X-Force Wolverine vs Kraven the Hunter

The fight between Kraven and Logan can be seen in the gorgeous variant cover for X-Force #30 - by the talented Carlos Magno - which depicts Kraven taking on the entire X-Force team. Kraven takes a potion made from mysterious jungle herbs that give him increased superhuman strength and agility, and also rapidly slow his aging process, meaning both him and Logan are decades older than they look, and both have years of experience. The one time that Kraven fought a Wolverine is in the pages of Old Man Logan when the universe-displaced Logan battled Kraven in the Savage Land. Now, Kraven will finally be given the chance to battle the younger Wolverine, potentially proving once and for all who Marvel's Greatest Hunter truly is.

Judgment Day is proving to be a universe-altering event, so it will be interesting to see how Percy works Kraven into the plot, and if he will distract X-Force from their true mission. Kraven versus Wolverine is a fight that fans have been asking about for years, so hopefully this battle lives up to expectations. Make sure to pick up X-Force #30 from Marvel Comics when it debuts on July 27th to see the epic battle between Wolverine and the fierce Kraven the Hunter.
