powerful foe Wolverine would face in his Marvel Comics career.

Because of Wolverine is ferocious and basically unkillable? Well, that reputation warrants a great number of opponents to challenge it. Throughout his Marvel Comics career, Wolverine has faced many villains who want to either see him dead or simply prove that have what it takes to kill him. Of them all, these are the 10 deadliest Wolverine villains, ranked by physical strength!

10 Solem

Solem Might Be Untouchable, but He’s Not THAT Physically Strong

Solem being recruited to fight during the X of Swords event.

Solem is a mutant from Arakko, and one aspect of his mutation is that he has adamantium skin. Unlike Wolverine, who had adamantium bonded to his skeleton via Weapon X experimentation, Solem was born with his adamantium, which actually makes him impervious to Wolverine's claws. However, just because Solem is basically untouchable, doesn't mean he's anywhere near the physically strongest of Wolverine's enemies.

The real threat Solem brings to the table isn't his physical strength, but his cunning and borderline madness. Solem has a sort of 'giddy' way of going about committing acts of ultra-violence, and is even the reason Deadpool was briefly killed by the villain Deathgrip, as it was Solem who gave Deathgrip the Muramasa Blade. But, in of physical strength, Solem still leaves much to be desired.

9 Sevyr Blackmore

Another Wolverine Foe from Arakko with Ties to Solem

Sevyr Blackmore fighting_Vertical

Sevyr Blackmore is another mutant from Arakko who first faced off against Wolverine in the X-Men's X of Swords event during the "Krakoan Era". Sevyr is a pirate and crime lord who actually has some deep-seated ties to Solem. Sevyr murdered Solem's entire village when Solem was a boy, and while Sevyr initially planned to sell the young Arakki mutant, he decided to train him instead. However, Solem eventually turned on Sevyr, which - weirdly enough - makes Sevyr a common enemy for Solem and Wolverine.

While Solem is an overall cooler Wolverine villain than Sevyr, the pirate/crime lord does have one thing over him, and it's the one thing that really matters in this list: physical strength. Sevyr is a brute who proved to be a major challenge for Wolverine when they fought.

8 Sabretooth

Victor Creed May Be Wolverine’s Oldest Nemesis, but Not His Strongest

Wolverine vs Sabretooth in Dying Game Comic Art

Arguably the greatest villain in Wolverine's personal history, Sabretooth is a ruthless sadist who takes great pleasure in ripping people to shreds with his razor-sharp claws. Killing is something of a hobby for Sabretooth, but his greatest joy comes from tormenting the one person he can never kill. Wolverine and Sabretooth were once partners in the Weapon X Program, though Wolverine was basically being mind-controlled the whole time while Sabretooth was there of his own accord. But, once Logan left, Sabretooth took that personally, and decided to make him pay - at least - once a year.

Every year on Wolverine's birthday, Sabretooth would come back into his life and ruin it somehow. From killing a woman he loves to ripping apart his own son, Wolverine is always sure to get a sick birthday gift from Sabretooth. However, just because Sabretooth is a great villain for Wolverine doesn't mean he's physically the strongest.

7 Omega Red

Omega Red’s Tendrils Can’t Compete with Wolverine’s Claws

Dark Omega Red in Marvel Comics

Omega Red was a mutant-born Soviet soldier who received a number of cybernetic enhancements to make him even deadlier, including and especially his retractable carbonadium tendrils. Wolverine first crossed paths with Omega Red during his final Team X mission with Sabretooth and Maverick, as they were rescuing a double-agent. That moment sparked a rivalry that would carry on through the ages, which is especially true during the X Lives of Wolverine story arc, in which Omega Red and Wolverine were battling throughout different points in history.

Omega Red is tough, brutal, and deadly enough to make Wolverine fear for his life any time they get into a fight. That being said, Omega Red's greatest source of strength is his tendrils, which are honestly no match for Wolverine's adamantium claws.

6 Nuke

Nuke is Way Stronger than He’s Given Credit For (& Wolverine Learns That)

Nuke loaded with weapons in Vietnam.

Frank Simpson aka Nuke is a failed product of the same Super Soldier Program that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America. At first, Nuke got his super-strength through a steady dose of pills that acted as an 'updated' super soldier serum, but that only took him so far. He arguably wouldn't reach his full strength (or, at least closer to it) until Nuke became a cyborg, a nearly-indestructible machine with his original human mind in his metal skull.

It was in that form when Nuke tangled with Wolverine, as he was sent by the U.S. government to kill Logan as he was learning the hidden secrets of his past. However, while Nuke certainly did more damage than most could boast against Wolverine due to his physical strength, he still didn't match up.

5 Romulus

Romulus is Wolverine’s Most Cunning Enemy

Romulus Marvel claws out

Romulus might be the most significant villain in Wolverine's personal history. Romulus is an ancient 'mutant' who claims to be a Lupine, which are 'humans' that evolved from canines rather than primates. Romulus also claims that Wolverine is one of his descendants, which is why Romulus spent so much time and effort molding Wolverine into the perfect living weapon. It was Romulus who founded the Weapon X Program and kidnapped Wolverine for it, and it was Romulus who guided every significant moment in Wolverine's life, all for the purpose of eventually recruiting Wolverine as his own personal weapon.

Romulus is not only Wolverine's most cunning enemy, but also one of his physically strongest. Sure, Romulus has claws reminiscent of both Wolverine and Sabretooth simultaneously, but he's also insanely built, and his physical strength is enough to throw Wolverine around like a rag doll.

4 Cyber

Cyber has Adamantium Bonded to His Skin

Wolverine fighting Cyber.

Like Wolverine, Cyber is a product of experimentation with adamantium, as he had it bonded to his skin by none other than Romulus himself - and that only made the already deadly mutant even stronger. Cyber was born with super-strength (among other powers), which allowed him to lift roughly two tons. But, after his enhancements, Cyber became strong enough to lift ten tons, and he packs every bit of that insane strength into his adamantium-laced punches while fighting Wolverine.

Cyber also has other tricks up his sleeve, like fingertip-claws containing hallucinogenic drugs on them to disorient his opponent (which is actually what he used on Wolverine during their very first on- fight). However, Cyber's standout feature is easily his super-strength, which makes him one of the physically strongest Wolverine villains.

3 Ultimate Colossus

Colossus’ Ultimate Universe Variant is Wolverine’s Arch Enemy

Colossus from Marvel Comics' new Ultimate Universe grabbing Wolverine by the throat.

Colossus is a mutant with super strength and the power to wrap his body in organic metal that's nearly impenetrable, which is what usually makes him the X-Men's resident 'strong guy'. But, wait, if Colossus is a member of the X-Men alongside Wolverine, what is he doing on this list? Well, that's because of his villainous Ultimate Universe counterpart. In Earth-6160, Colossus is a member of the Maker's Council and the ruler over a chunk of the entire world, where he was free to conduct Weapon X-style experiments on mutants - including and especially Wolverine.

Ultimate Colossus turned Wolverine into the Winter Soldier, a mind-controlled killing-machine that is used to slaughter mutant rebels who oppose Colossus' regime. Colossus isn't just Ultimate Wolverine's arch enemy, he's also way stronger than Wolverine, as he's proven many times already.

2 Nimrod

Nimrod has Successfully Killed Wolverine Countless Times

Nimrod with the X-Men behind him.

Nimrod is the deadliest Sentinel ever created, capable of adapting to anything and fated to bring about the end of mutant and humankind (if the potential futures revealed by Moira MacTaggert from House of X/Powers of X came to ). It's almost doing Nimrod a disservice to label him as a 'Wolverine villain', since he's arguably the greatest villain the entire X-Men - and perhaps even the whole Marvel Universe - has ever faced. However, Nimrod and Wolverine do share a dark history together, one that makes their conflict profoundly personal.

During the Inferno story arc, Nimrod murdered Wolverine over and over again, as the mutant hero was free to come back at him due to the X-Men's resurrection capabilities (thanks to The Five), and Nimrod even collected Wolverine's adamantium skeleton with each death. Plus, in of physical strength, Nimrod once proved strong enough to out-muscle Apcalypse, so Wolverine never even stood a chance.

1 Wendigo

Wendigo has the Strength to Literally Tear Wolverine Apart

Wendigo rips Wolverine in two

Next to the Hulk, the Wendigo is the first villain Wolverine was ever shown fighting in Marvel Comics, which is fitting, since the Wendigo once did to Wolverine what the Hulk did to him in a later story arc: rip Wolverine in half. The Wendigo isn't just one character, but rather anyone who falls under the Wendigo curse, granting them immense strength through an unparalleled feral rage.

And, during one encounter with a Wendigo, Wolverine got himself ripped in half, proving just how physically strong this creature really is - arguably the physically strongest Wolverine villain in his entire catalog.
