Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Will Trent season 3, episode 14, "A Funeral Fit for a Quartermaine."
Each the main cast of Will Trent.
Will Trent has been renewed for season 4, which will premiere sometime during the 2025–2026 network TV season.
Given the show's title, Will Trent has mostly focused on Will, who is undoubtedly one of TV's most complex characters. Everything that happened in his past shaped him into the person he is today, and as the series continues, he keeps on developing (and regressing). However, Will is surrounded by characters just as complicated and intriguing. One person in particular has undergone one of the best redemption arcs on TV, seeing as they were horrible to watch in season 1, and now they're one of the best parts Will Trent season 3.
Ormewood Went From Will Trent's Worst Character To One Of Its Best In Season 3
Jake McLaughlin's Character Was Horrible In Season 1
If someone had told me back in season 1 that I'd want to see more of Ormewood in Will Trent season 3, I would have laughed in their face. When the ABC series began, Ormewood was easily the show's worst character. Whenever he was on the screen, I couldn't help but roll my eyes. Ormewood was all but a corrupt cop who cheated on his wife and used his authority for personal gain. He simply had no redeemable qualities, but that has all changed in the past two seasons.

Ormewood has proved himself and is now one of the most endearing, funny characters in Will Trent season 3. Not only is he the show's comedic relief, but Ormewood is arguably the person most in tune with their emotions. The turnaround is impressive, to say the least. Perhaps all Ormewood needed was for his wife to leave him, which was devastating, but also necessary for his character development. The work he has done to improve himself, make himself a better father, cop, and friend is commendable, and that's why it's so devastating to learn about his brain tumor in season 3, episode 14.

I Know It's Still Early, But Will Trent Season 3 Has Already Convinced Me That Marion Isn't Will's Endgame
Following his breakup with Angie, Will has been in a relationship with Marion in Will Trent season 3, but episode 12 suggests she isn’t his soulmate.
How Ormewood's Brain Tumor Storyline Will Further Develop His Character
Ormewood Learns He Has A Brain Tumor In Will Trent Season 3
Angie's new Will Trent season 3 love interest, Dr. Seth McDale, informs Ormewood that he has a brain tumor in episode 14. The APD detective had been having trouble with his spatial awareness and even fainted at one point, resulting in him getting checked out at the hospital by Seth. Unfortunately, we won't know more about the tumor until it's removed and biopsied. As Seth explains, the biopsy will "give [Ormewood] answers which exist anywhere on a spectrum from good news to pretty damn bad."
The prospect of dying is already having a significant impact on Ormewood, given his tearful response to the news and opening up about his father's death in episode 14.
Of course, the possibility of Ormewood having terminal cancer is terrifying. However, this new storyline allows Jake McLaughlin's character to develop further. The prospect of dying is already having a significant impact on Ormewood, given his tearful response to the news and opening up about his father's death in episode 14. Thankfully, Will Trent will continue fleshing out this new Ormewood development, as co-showrunner Liz Heldens told TVLine, "We are making story of every step of this."
