Angie's Declaration Prepares Fans For Sara's Inevitable Arrival In Will Trent

One Of Will's Central Love Interests In The Books Is Sara Linton

Even though Will's love interest in Will Trent season 3 is Gina Rodriguez's Marion Alba, Angie's words in episode 4 suggest another one from the books will be introduced shortly. Sara Linton is a name that many Will Trent book readers will recognize (light spoilers from the novels ahead). Aside from Angie, Sara is one of Will's central romances in Karin Slaughter's series and is an important character in the protagonist's arc.

Will Trent Season 3 Highlights That Angie Is Not Will's Most Important Relationship

Will and Angie’s dynamic has been at the center of Will Trent’s story since the beginning, but that doesn’t mean it’s his most important relationship.

With Angie definitively closing the door on her and Will's romantic relationship (and friendship) in Will Trent season 3, the opportunity for other love interests to enter the picture is wide open. Will's demeanor in season 3 suggests he knew him and Angie were done, but her declaration in episode 4 confirms it for him. So, Will can move on from Angie. He will first explore a relationship with Marion, as the sparks between them are flying in "Floor Is Lava." However, if the show's writers want to eventually bring in Sara, Marion might not be long for Will Trent.

However, as the show is quite unlike the novels, only time will tell how Will and Sara's relationship forms if/when Will Trent introduces the new character.

During an interview with TVLine a few weeks ahead of the Will Trent season 2 finale, Ramón Rodríguez discussed the idea of bringing Sara into the series. While the actor didn't deny it would happen, he also didn't confirm it would, either. Rodríguez said:

"We've talked about it. You know, it's a big deal. We don't take that lightly. It's such a big character in the books, and would potentially be a big character in the series, so we want to be really mindful [about how we do that]. We have an amazing cast, as well, so you have to interweave things in a way. Whenever you're entering another piece, and it's a big piece, you want to be really smart about it."

Will & Sara's Relationship In The Books Explained

Sara Is Regarded As One Of Will's Healthiest Relationships

Will Trent (the ABC series) is different from the books, meaning Will's relationship with Sara, if she's ever introduced, could stray from the source material, as well. In the novels, though, Sara is a doctor with a traumatic backstory. She and Will meet when she moves to Atlanta, but they don't get together right away as he's still hung up on Angie. Ultimately, Will and Sara's dynamic is regarded by many as Will's healthiest relationship. However, as the show is quite unlike the novels, only time will tell how Will and Sara's relationship forms if/when Will Trent introduces the new character.
