"I honestly think it’s going to be very polarizing. I think some people are actually going to love it and feel vindicated and feel very happy about it. But I think a lot of people are going to be very upset.
I hope we find ourselves in kind of a whole new world. But the writers are so good at embracing everything that we’ve established so far and really staying true to these characters in this world. I’m trying to see also how they’re going to move forward from this finale.”
Which Plot Points Could The Will Trent Season 2 Finale Explore?

One of the key plot points might also come from Will Trent's season 2 backstory reveal, with him trying to process his childhood trauma, which he had previously repressed.
While it's unclear how the season 2 finale might end, there are a few plot points the show could touch on before carrying over to season 3. Uncovering the identity of the killer will be an ongoing investigation for the team. This could be the major reveal in the finale, with the promo trailer for the episode suggesting the killer could be female. Will and Angie's relationship status could be another controversial plot point that the finale might choose to explore, which has become more serious this season.

Will Trent Season 3's Surprising Release Update Risks Hurting Season 2's Ending
Fans will have to wait longer than expected for the Will Trent season 3 premiere, and the season 2 finale will make the wait even more unbearable.
One of the key plot points might also come from Will Trent's season 2 backstory reveal, with him trying to process his childhood trauma, which he had previously repressed. As a child, Will tried to protect his foster mother Anna from his abusive foster father Jack, which resulted in Jack nearly beating Will to death before killing Anna. Processing this trauma is bound to have a profound impact on Will and his ability to do his job effectively, which could provide a huge story arc for the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3.
It's unknown whether the season 2 finale will end on a cliffhanger, but the forewarning poses a risk to retaining the audience when the show returns for season 3. It's already been confirmed that it won't be back until midseason in 2025, so this could also enable viewership losses if the finale is too controversial. Will Trent is a show that could be a long-lasting hit for ABC, so the reception to the season 2 finale episode will be the first indicator of how well the show might perform in the future.
The Will Trent season 2 finale airs on May 21, 2024, at 8 pm ET on ABC.
