Warning! Spoilers for Cobra Kai season 6, part 3, ahead!Cobra Kai season 6 had already counted Johnny and Miguel out of the Sekai Taikai, but part 3 turned all of this around with the perfect twist. The Karate Kid spinoff series got its start with the teacher-student relationship between these two, so it's fitting that Cobra Kai would end with them on top. However, following the events of season 6, part 2, it seemed that Johnny and Miguel's competition days were over. Thanks to some shifting between the dojos competing in the finals of the Sekai Taikai, however, this was not the case.

The ending of Cobra Kai season 6, part 2, left off during the Sekai Taikai finals. The final teams taking part were Miyagi-Do, the Iron Dragons, and Cobra Kai, each putting forward their boy and girl captains to face off and accrue points for their dojos. This meant the girls' champion would be Tory, Sam, or Zara, while the boys' champion could be Kwon, Robby, or Axel. Unfortunately, Kwon's death in Cobra Kai season 6, part 2, meant everything was up in the air. The Sekai Taikai resumed, but Cobra Kai dojo was left without a sensei or boys' division competitor.

Kreese Offered His Cobra Kai Sensei Spot To Johnny Ahead Of The Sekai Taikai Finals

Johnny Got His Old Dojo Back

Tory was the only person from John Kreese's Cobra Kai who returned to the Sekai Taikai. Kreese had dismissed the boy Master Kim selected to replace Kwon, and Sensei Kim chose not to bring her students back to the tournament after she killed her grandfather. However, Kreese didn't leave the dojo rudderless.

Though he didn't put a boy competitor forward, Kreese wanted to see Tory become a champion. The old man's journey of redemption led him to realize that he wasn't the right person to serve as Tory's teacher, so he offered the poison to Johnny instead. After all, Kreese's star student was the one who revived Cobra Kai in the first place. Johnny's sensei had stolen the dojo from him, so Cobra Kai season 6, part 3, was the perfect chance to set this wrong right. Thanks to Kreese's efforts, Johnny became Tory sensei again, and Miguel was free to become the Cobra Kai boys' captain.

Johnny & Miguel Were Freed Up From Miyagi-Do (Without Drama)

Of course, Johnny and Miguel reing Cobra Kai meant they had to abandon Miyagi-Do. Though this would have created a massive conflict in previous seasons of Cobra Kai, Daniel LaRusso had come a long way by season 6, part 3. Robby lost against Axel when the Iron Dragon boy broke his leg, so the boys' championship was already out the window for Miyagi-Do. There was still some hope for the girls' division, but Sam felt conflicted about facing off with Tory. Ultimately, Sam and Daniel decided to take Mr. Miyagi's advice and avoided the fight entirely.

Cobra Kai Had Already Earned A Spot In The Boys' Division Final Thanks To Kwon

Cobra Kai Had The Right To Put Forward A New Fighter

Kwon was supposed to be the Cobra Kai competitor in the boys' division's final, but this was only because he was the selected captain. The final round of the Sekai Taikai saw a representative from each dojo fight for the championship, and this representative could technically be changed if the dojo so chose. Regardless of who fought, Cobra Kai had earned a spot in the final. Kwon's place could be taken by any of the male Cobra Kai students, but Sensei Kim chose to give these kids time to heal after the tragedy of Cobra Kai season 6, part 2.

If Cobra Kai didn't fill Kwon's place, Axel would automatically be crowned the Sekai Taikai's boy champion. However, once Johnny took over as sensei, he was able to put his first-ever student in the running. Miguel was a former Cobra Kai and was, therefore, allowed to seamlessly switch from Miyagi-Do to the boys' captain for Johnny's team. It was a rather poetic twist since it meant Cobra Kai ended with the same all-star students in the same dojos from season 1—Sam and Robby in Miyagi-Do and Tory and Miguel at Cobra Kai.

This Was Miguel's Only Shot

Back in Cobra Kai season 6, part 2, Miguel struggled with the fact that Robby was Miyagi-Do's captain and not him. Robby entered the Sekai Taikai while deeply distracted and unable to lead his team effectively. Miguel was frustrated by this since Robby's role as captain meant that he himself was unable to compete in the tournament's final round. Miguel ultimately accepted this fact and helped Robby regain his confidence for the final matches in Barcelona. When the Sekai Taikai came to the Valley for a finals do-over, Miguel was behind Robby 100 percent.

Miguel competing meant that Axel couldn't just claim the championship spot by default, and after what happened to Robby, this was only another positive for Miyagi-Do.

However, once Robby's leg was broken, and Sam backed out of her match, Miguel had no real reason to stick with Miyagi-Do. Becoming Cobra Kai's captain by Tory's side meant that Miguel had a chance to fight in the final—something that wasn't possible before. Daniel, Robby, Sam, and the rest of the Miyagi-Dos fully ed this. Miguel competing meant that Axel couldn't just claim the championship spot by default, and after what happened to Robby, this was only another positive for Miyagi-Do.

Tory, Miguel, And Johnny Won The Sekai Taikai For Cobra Kai

Each Won Their Fight In the Sekai Taikai Final

Under Johnny's leadership, Tory and Miguel were able to defeat Zara and Axel fair and square. They become the boy and girl champions, and in their respective matches, Cobra Kai caught up with Iron Dragon's significant lead. However, after Tory and Miguel claimed their trophies, the overall dojo championship title couldn't be determined since Cobra Kai and Iron Dragon were left in a tie. In another surprise twist, it was announced that the Sekai Taikai's tiebreaker involved a traditional 3-point match between the two dojos' senseis—Johnny Lawrence would get an All-Valley do-over.

The Sekai Taikai was Johnny's first time in a formal competition since his Karate Kid loss in 1984.

Everything came down to the match between Johnny and Sensei Wolf. Whoever won would take home the overall dojo championship, and this was, naturally, a great deal of pressure. With Miyagi-Do out of the running, Daniel was free to serve as Johnny's teacher leading up to the final big match. The ending of Cobra Kai essentially took the ending of The Karate Kid and turned it on its head. This time, Johnny was the less experienced and technically skilled fighter—a classic karate underdog. Of course, he wound up winning in the end. Tory, Miguel, Johnny, and Cobra Kai as a whole become world champions.
