Although Jackie was long thought to be the “pit girl” in the Yellowjackets premiere episode, the season 1 finale debunked this theory and made several remaining survivors, among others, potential choices. Yellowjackets' first episode contains several scenes revealing that, at some point during their time in the woods, the teens resort to cannibalism by trapping and murdering one of their fellow plane crash survivors. While the girls have officially established the pilot's teased sacrificial ritual in Yellowjackets season 2, episode 8, the question remains, who is the infamous pit girl eaten in Yellowjackets?

The majority of Yellowjackets season 1’s theories had speculated that Jackie of the Yellowjackets season 1 ended with Jackie freezing to death outside, with her corpse being eaten in season 2, episode 2, meaning she couldn’t be the mysterious character commonly referred to as “pit girl."

Every Theory On Who Yellowjackets' "Pit Girl" Is

Theories Range From Mari To A Character Who Hasn't Been Introduced Yet

There are now only a few options for which member of Yellowjackets' cast was eaten by the others, as the series has already confirmed seven characters who survive into the 2021 timeline. So far, the Yellowjackets survivors known to make it out of the woods are Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty, Lottie, Travis, and Van, with Laura Lee and Jackie being the first ones to die after the crash. Adult Van's survival came as the biggest shock, as her fate wasn't confirmed until Yellowjackets season 2.

A few characters from the cast of Yellowjackets can also be counted out as the person eaten due to their physical looks being different from the victim, shown to have dark brown hair with light skin. While Yellowjackets still has several unnamed teammates in the woods who have yet to be fully introduced, with even more players being introduced each season, the only known character who fits the description in season 1 is Mari, who became close with Jackie, the Yellowjackets' team captain, and tried to make wine out of rotten berries. Mari is one of the most popular theories for the identity of the pit girl.

While Mari was largely a background character in Yellowjackets season 1, her character's influence and loyalties have become much clearer in season 2. Mari ended Yellowjackets season 1 with more animosity toward Misty, whom she blamed for drugging them all into their nearly murderous hallucinations, putting her at odds with the confirmed cannibal character. While Mari still has some animosity toward Misty, she's become one of Lottie's fiercest followers, but the sacrificial ritual in Yellowjackets season 2, episode 8, has established that relationships within the group don't necessarily matter when it comes down to who is cannibalized next.

10 Wild Yellowjackets Season 3 Theories That Could Actually Happen

With Yellowjackets season 3 on the horizon, there are many theories about what surprising and horrifying developments have yet to unfold.

However, “pit girl” could easily be one of the extras in the cast of Yellowjackets introduced in season 2. So far, three new Yellowjackets team have been introduced: Crystal (Nuha Jes Izman), Gen (Mya Lowe), and Melissa (Jenna Burges). Crystal can't be the "pit girl" in the Yellowjackets cannibalism storyline, as she's already died by Misty's hands in season 2, episode 5, but both Gen and Melissa are definitely contenders by the end of Yellowjackets season 2. Based on the fact that victims are chosen by drawing the Queen of Hearts card, any of these new characters could still be the eaten girl.

There are shown to be seven people involved in the ritualized cannibalism in episode 1, and audiences know that Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty, Lottie, Travis, and Van survive the wilderness.

It’s also been theorized that the girl eaten in Yellowjackets episode 1's cannibalism scenes wasn’t on the soccer team at all, as it’s unknown if anyone else could be living nearby in the wilderness. Other theories have suggested that Shauna and Jeff’s daughter, Callie, is the pit girl, with the pilot scene actually taking place in the present timeline. One way this theory holds water pertains to Jackie's necklace. Shauna could've held on to the trinket after it was taken off of the "pit girl," and Callie might've taken it the night she dressed up as a Yellowjackets player on Halloween.

However, this theory was debunked, meaning the character that the girls eat in Yellowjackets episode 1 is already in the woods with them in 1996, and Jackie's necklace has proven to be an important part of the sacrificial ritual. A teenage Misty is revealed as she takes off her mask directly after their first shown act of cannibalism. There are shown to be seven people involved in the ritualized cannibalism in episode 1, and audiences know that Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty, Lottie, Travis, and Van survive the wilderness. These may be the seven seen in the ceremonial garb, which would put Mari, Gen, or Melissa in danger.

Jackie Wasn't The "Pit Girl" But She Was Still A Victim

Jackie Still Gets Eaten, But Long Before The Sacrificial Ritual Is Formalized

The girls of Yellowjackets sit down to a feast in season 2, episode 2

Up until the season 1 finale, it was widely believed that Jackie, out of the whole cast of Yellowjackets, was the "pit girl," because her necklace was on the episode 1 victim. While Jackie's death forbade her from being the victim depicted in the Yellowjackets cannibalism storyline shown in the premiere, she still ended up being the very first girl that the team ended up eating. In one of the most shocking moments of Yellowjackets season 2, episode 2, Jackie's corpse was accidentally cooked when the girls tried to cremate her, and a pile of snow fell on top of her.

Although Jackie died in Yellowjackets' season 1 finale, Ella Purnell reprised her role in season 2 for visions Shauna has of the character.

What resulted was an all-out feeding frenzy when Yellowjackets' teens awoke to the smell of a barbecued Jackie after what's presumed to be two months of Natalie and Travis being unable to find game. Shauna was the first to experiment with the act, eating Jackie's ear in the Yellowjackets season 2 premiere, but the first instance of Yellowjackets cannibalism didn't go down how audiences expected, since what's shown in the first episode is a hunting game of cat and mouse rather than an act of desperation and shame. Now that the sacrifice ritual has been established, the mystery of the "pit girl" in Yellowjackets looms ever larger.

Javi Is The Latest Yellowjackets Victim

Javi Was Eaten After Meeting An Accidental Death During The Hunting Ritual

Yellowjackets season 2, episode 8 revealed not only the full process of the sacrificial ritual, but also who the next victim was. The ritual itself sees the girls choosing randomly from a deck of cards, with whoever chooses the Queen of Hearts being the next to sacrifice themselves to satiate the group's hunger. The victim is then marked for death with Jackie's necklace, hunted, killed, and eaten. In the installment, Natalie was unfortunate enough to draw the Queen of Hearts card, but before Shauna could slit her throat, Travis fought the girls off and she ran. Javi ran after her, saying he would take her to his hideaway and she followed.

Yellowjackets Season 3: Everything You Need To Know

After two brilliant seasons, Yellowjackets season 3 arrived to offer yet another blood-soaked installment in the Showtime shocker.

Javi and Natalie tried to cross the frozen lake, with the rest of the team in hot pursuit behind them, but Javi stood on a patch of thin ice and fell through. Natalie tried to rescue him, but Misty stopped her, saying the others would kill her if she did. Therefore, Natalie let Javi drown, and the team recovered his body with Van proclaiming, "The wilderness chose!" It was certainly an unexpected twist and one that will inevitably change the course of Natalie and Travis' relationship for the worse. The season 2 ending might see Javi sacrificed, but it still doesn't get closer to revealing who the pilot's original pit girl is in Yellowjackets.

When Do The Pit Girl Scenes Take Place In Yellowjackets' Timeline?

Pit Girl Likely Dies Shortly Before The Teens Are Rescued

Yellowjackets cannibalism cult ritual

The pilot episode cuts between three points in Yellowjackets' full timeline: the teens crashing in 1996, the survivors reuniting in 2021, and the "pit girl" incident before the teens are rescued from the wilderness. The latter isn't given an explicit timeframe, creating a mystery as to how long it takes for the girls to crash, lose the majority of the survivors, and descend into becoming ritualistic cannibals to survive. The first winter in Yellowjackets season 2 culminated in the teens officially establishing the Antler Queen and Queen of Hearts ritual, so the pit girl scenes will likely happen next winter.

The show has also revealed that the teens are only in the wilderness for approximately 19 months. The first winter ends after the teens have spent about seven to nine months in the wilderness, which leaves about a year left in the wilderness timeline. It would be fitting for the pit girl scenes to occur at the very end of their time in the wilderness, as the seven figures participating in the pilot's cannibal ritual appear to be the same seven characters who return home. Therefore, "pit girl" is likely the last death in Yellowjackets' cannibal ritual before the teens are finally rescued shortly after.

Who Has Jackie's Necklace In Yellowjackets & What It Means

The Antler Queen Was Given Jackie's Necklace In Yellowjackets' Season 2 Finale

Pit girl wearing Jackie's necklace in Yellowjackets

The heart necklace worn by pit girl at the time of her death was originally owned by Jackie, who gave the accessory to Shauna on the fateful plane ride. Shauna maintained possession of the object for some time, with the necklace then being ed to Teen Natalie in Yellowjackets' season 2 finale. The necklace was given to Natalie before being crowned the Antler Queen, suggesting that it will primarily be worn by the character holding that title in future episodes.

Jackie initially gave Shauna the necklace for "luck," so giving it to the following victims may symbolize good luck in the hunt.

Since Jackie was the first character who the teens cannibalized after the wilderness "chose" her for their survival, the teens may bestow Jackie's necklace upon the next "chosen" victim, like pit girl, to honor her as the original sacrifice. Shauna gave Natalie the necklace after she drew the card in Yellowjackets' season 2 finale, so it might go to subsequent characters who draw the Queen of Hearts before being returned to the Antler Queen. Furthermore, Jackie initially gave Shauna the necklace for "luck," so giving it to the following victims may symbolize good luck in the hunt.

Yellowjackets season 3 is confirmed to premiere in 2025.

The whereabouts of the necklace are still unknown in the present timeline, but it's possible that it was either buried in lieu of Jackie's body, kept by one of the survivors, or destroyed due to the evidence it provides about their rituals. The true purpose of Jackie's necklace will presumably become more clear as the dark events of Yellowjackets season 3's story unfold, as there's still about a year to go before the teens are rescued. However, this also means that pit girl's identity may not be revealed until well after Yellowjackets season 3, depending on how much time es.
