The 12 astrological signs are a good way to summarize the expansive cast of a show like Hulu's Pam & Tommy. Executive produced and starring Seth Rogen, the miniseries tells the story of the man who stole the safe containing Pamela Anderson (Lily James) and Tommy Lee's (Sebastian Stan) sex tape.
There's also Uncle Miltie, the partner to Rogen's thieving Rand Gauthier and Andrew Dice Clay's loanshark Butchie complicating matters. Even a character's appendage has a personality and a zodiac sign that aligns with it.
Aries - Alicia Krentz (Irene Choi)
Aries make for excellent leaders, yet they can be impulsive and impatient with what they deem to be inadequacy. Their courage and optimism can make them enjoyable to have around, but they can switch to an aggressive disposition at the drop of a hat.
Like some of Pam & Tommy incorporates the dichotomy of law and criminality. And, with fame, there's the press. L.A. Times reporter Alicia Krentz isn't introduced until the series' fifth episode, but it stands to reason that her impact on the sho will be significant during the final three episodes. She's tenacious, like all good leaders, and has the courage to approach her boss about the sex tape story several times. She knows she's right, and the viewer gets the sense she could get aggressive—within reason—to do her job properly.
Taurus - Tommy's Penis (Jason Mantzoukas)
Endlessly stubborn, the Taurus also possesses the extremely unattractive quality of possessiveness. On the positive side, this Earth sign is patient and reliable, even during the tough times.
Even boundary-pushing Pam & Tommy haven't included scenes like Lee's bathroom trip. Standing over his toilet, he has a conversation with his penis (Jason Mantzoukas) about blooming deep feelings for Anderson. Tommy's genitalia seems to be the alpha in the relationship, to the point of possessiveness. But Tommy is pushing to have love instead of lust.
Gemini - Pamela Anderson (Lily James)
A Gemini has an affectionate way of interacting with others and is endlessly curious. This Air element can also be indecisive, proving to be an inconsistent member of any given team. The sociable type with an appreciation for art and pop culture, the Gemini also has a distaste for solitude.
Pam & Tommy's Anderson is almost always shown either with Tommy or in a large group, but seldom alone. She's a big star and everyone wants to either sleep with her or profit off of her. She's learned to socialize with a smile, even when it's obvious to the viewer she's distinctly uncomfortable.
Cancer - Erica (Taylor Schilling)
Cancer, a water element, has tenacity in spades and an imagination to match. However, they often allow their moodiness to get the best of them and their manipulative nature tends to push people away.
Taylor Schilling's Erica Gauthier isn't in much of the miniseries' first five episodes, and her relationship with Rand hasn't been elaborated on to any great length. Even still, it's clear she's had the tenacity to make it as far as she has in the adult film industry. And while she doesn't come across as particularly moody, the viewer gets the sense she manipulates Rand from time to time.
Leo - Tommy Lee (Sebastian Stan)
Leos are filled with ion and generosity, which can make them a cheerful presence around family, friends, and even strangers. However, their arrogance and stubbornness are off-putting, as is their utter lack of flexibility.
Not many Anderson fans would call Mötley Crue's drummer an entertainer who deserves a biopic. As far as Pam & Tommy's rendition of Lee, he's certainly arrogant, essentially nonstop. He also has an overflowing ion which can, unfortunately, transform into violence if provoked.
Virgo - Uncle Miltie (Nick Offerman)
Positive attributes of the Virgo include a hardworking nature and an analytical mind. However, this Earth sign is overly shy and a constant worrier.
Almost certainly one of Nick Offerman's best roles, "Uncle Miltie" is integral in circulating Anderson and Lee's tape. He's worked hard and made it to the point of being a successful pornographic director during its boom years. Yet, even with financial security, he's worried enough to leave the country once there's heat about the tape.
Libra - Melanie (Pepi Sonuga)
Libras enjoy harmony and possess a gentle nature. They have no issue sharing with their peers as long as none of them are violent or aggressive.
Pepi Sonuga's Melanie is intermittently shown throughout Pam & Tommy's early episodes and she comes across as the responsible friend. She sees Lee for what he is and what he could do to her friend. She tries to delicately broach this topic with Anderson to no avail but shies recoils whenever the aggressive Lee comes into the club.
Scorpio - Anthony Pellicano (Don Harvey)
Scorpios value truth and honesty over all other things. They're also assets in a group dynamic, always promoting resourcefulness and the bravery to try new things.
The miniseries' version of Anthony Pellicano doesn't stop short of violence to get truth and honesty. He's hired by Anderson and Lee because he'll go farther than them to get the identity of who stole their tape. For instance, Pellicano will actually look for the person. Then, when he finds Rand, he certainly shows resourcefulness in his interrogation method.
Sagittarius - Jay Leno (Adam Ray)
On the positive side of things, the Sagittarius has a generous spirit and can make just about anyone laugh. However, they make lofty promises without the ability to follow up on them. They also say things that are politically incorrect or offensive with seeming impunity.
Jay Leno, at least the one seen in Pam & Tommy, is a Sagittarius because of one joke in particular. He doesn't care about the story, or the invasion of Anderson and Lee's privacy until lawsuits start getting thrown around. Then, the depth of his insight into Anderson's life or her struggle is summarized with a callous and weak joke about her breasts being flotation devices.
Capricorn - Lonnie (Larry Brown)
Capricorns have a way of displaying discipline and stringent self-control, but they're really condescending in how they go about it. They expect the worst, so they're desperate to keep that self-control just in case things go south.
For their contractor business, Rand controlled the craftsman side of things, but it was Lonnie who took care of the financial side of things. There are a few scenes early in the series of Lonnie and Rand bickering over who should inform Lee of increased charges. They're funny scenes, but they also display Lonnie's sense of control. Furthermore, when he backs out of Rand's plan, it again shows his desire for self-preservation.
Aquarius - Butchie Peraino (Andrew Dice Clay)
One of the more troubling personality types, the Aquarius is very hesitant to display any sort of emotion. They have a red-hot temperament and are uncompromising in their view of how things should go. However, their independent nature can be helpful, particularly when they're displaying a progressive attitude, which is common.
As played by legendary comedian Andrew Dice Clay, adult film producer Butchie Peraino is an intimidating presence. He's also unwavering on his views of what's best for the future of the industry. He takes some convincing to agree to pony up the cash for the sex tape, and that's even when chatting with an old acquaintance.
Pisces - Rand Gauthier (Seth Rogen)
Pisces have a surplus of comion and are overly trusting, which can lead to their victimization. They enjoy solitude but in contrast desire the companionship provided by romance.
Gauthier trusted Lee to actually pay for the work that had been done. And, particularly towards the beginning of the series, he talks a lot about faith and justice in the universe. Therefore, he does believe that good should be rewarded with good, even if the way he goes about achieving good is in fact bad. He also seems in his element within his dimly lit apartment, yet his heart clearly yearns for his estranged wife, Erica.
