Jamie & Eddie Share Their Romantic Feelings In Blue Bloods Season 7 & Get Engaged In Season 8

The Couple Tie The Knot At The End Of Season 9

When Eddie first arrives on Blue Bloods in season 4, episode 1, she's assigned to Jamie as his new partner. At first, the pair butts heads, with Jamie's seasoned style bumping up against Eddie's cavalier approach. However, as the season continues, it becomes clear that the pair have a connection. The sexual tension is particularly apparent in season 4, episode 5, when they go undercover as a couple for a jewelry store sting operation.

What was cute in season 4, gets somewhat frustrating in seasons 5-8, especially because Eddie and Jamie date other people the audience knows they won't end up with.

Finally, in season 4, episode 19, a night out drinking leads to a first kiss between the pair, but Jamie backs off, afraid that they will be separated if anyone finds out they're having a relationship. So begins a long four seasons of rising sexual tension that neither party acts on, fearful they may be separated for good. What was cute in season 4, gets somewhat frustrating in seasons 5-8, especially because Eddie and Jamie date other people the audience knows they won't end up with.

Eddie goes by Officer Janko at work and Mrs. Reagan at home, though her legal name after marriage is Edit "Eddie" Marie Janko-Reagan.

Save for a second kiss in season 7, the two don't get together until season 8, episode 22, when they it their feelings and get engaged. This leads to a wedding at the end of season 9, and Eddie being brought into the Reagan family officially. Eddie and Jamie's relationship is the only new romance of the Reagan clan. Every other family member has married, been through a relationship, or ruined one. Jamie and Eddie's relationship is critical to show that the "royal NYPD-blue blood" of the Reagans will continue on.

The Blue Bloods Relationship Gave Eddie's Vanessa Ray New Storyline Opportunities

Eddie Got To Be Her Own Character Once She And Jamie Were Officially Together

Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) pointing a gun in Blue Bloods.

When Eddie first arrived in season 4, and for some seasons after, the only member of the Reagan family she interacted with was Jamie, limiting Vanessa Ray's screen time. However, her relationship with Jamie gave her opportunities to share scenes with other cast . Ray said about the new direction her character took over the years, via TheNerdsofColor,

"When I started on the show in season 4, I almost exclusively worked with Will. He’s an incredible scene partner and dear friend. As Jamie and Eddie’s relationship evolved and when they finally decided to get together/married, my job had also evolved. I was working with people I’d only ever high-fived in the studio hallway. It felt like a totally new show. New faces every day... Eddie’s voice is bolder now at the dinner table and on the job. I like that."

As Jamie's fiancé and then wife, Eddie even got to attend the famed Blue Bloods Reagan family dinners, with those same cast she had only known tangentially, walking through the studio's halls. What Jamie and Eddie feared about being separated as patrol partners did come true but that ended up being a boon for audiences and the characters, as Ray said,

"I got a new partner in the incredible Lauren Patton. It’s been quite an arc looking back."

Almost paradoxically, Eddie became her own character when she was officially attached to Jamie. No longer did every story of her character in Blue Bloods have to revolve around him, and she was free to be a unique and self-determining officer.
