Played by Guy Roberts, Uno Nomesta met an unexpected end in The Wheel of Time season 2, episode 3. Introduced toward the end of The Wheel of Time’s first season, the foul-mouthed Shienaran was shaping up to be a key ing character in Perrin’s arc. Instead, he became season 2’s first major casualty.
ed by Loial, Ingtar, Masema, Elyas, and Uno, Perrin Aybara was swept up in a conflict with the Seanchan, an evil empire in Robert Jordan’s books whose arrival set up in the season 1 finale. In a position to serve as the primary villains of the season, the Seanchan captured Perrin and his allies. Though Perrin ultimately escaped thanks to Elyas, the fight with the Seanchan was not without consequence. For refusing to bow down in reverence to their leader, the Seanchan made an example of Uno by shoving him face-first onto a sharp, horn-shaped object.
Uno Didn’t Die In The Wheel Of Time Books
Given Uno’s unwavering pride, it’s not surprising that he didn’t survive being held at the mercy of the Seanchan. But while his refusal to relent and bravado is consistent with how he’s characterized in the source material, what happened to him in the show differs considerably from the books. Like his TV counterpart, Uno took part in the hunt for Padan Fain and the Horn of Valere, but the battle with the Seanchan and Uno’s death at their hands were inventions of the series. Rather than die here at this juncture, Uno’s story continued, with the character making multiple appearances all the way through the end of the series in A Memory of Light.
Had he not died, his future in the show could have taken the same route as the book character. In The Dragon Reborn, Uno witnessed Rand’s power pledged himself to the Dragon Reborn’s cause. As a soldier, he served Rand loyally across multiple skirmishes, crossing paths with a number of key characters, such as Egwene, Nynaeve, Moiraine, and more. In fact, Uno survived the entire events of the Wheel of Time saga, the Last Battle included.
Why Did Wheel Of Time Kill Off Uno?
While it’s true that Uno never died in The Wheel of Time’s books, that’s not to say that his death is a game-changing development for the series. Though he did appear in multiple books, he was never utilized as a major character beyond The Great Hunt, which remains the story where he had the biggest presence. Killing him off robs the show of a few story moments, but his lack of significant contributions to the narrative made him a character The Wheel of Time could easily kill off. The death of someone as likable as Uno helps prove the show’s willingness to kill off characters who may have seemed safe, while also highlighting the ruthless of its new villains.
The Wheel of Time releases new episodes on Fridays on Amazon Prime Video.
