In Colin – the 100-year-old energy vampire – are part of a much larger vampiric society. The vampires who are part of this society are subject to the same rules, have similar powers, and are often centuries-old like Laszlo himself. This means that Laszlo actually has several options, should he want to befriend one of his immortal peers.
Throughout the series so far, viewers have been introduced to several of the vampires that inhabit Manhatten, including Laszlo's nemesis, Simon the Devious. There are also the vampires from the bi-annual vampire orgy, the local vampiric councils, and the new vampires that also live in New York. And while What We Do In The Shadows hasn’t yet revealed much about energy vampires, Laszlo’s housemate Colin Robinson, an energy vampire, has already met a handful of his own kind.
However, despite the sheer number of vampires in the vicinity of Laszlo’s Staten Island home, virtually none of the main characters’ interactions with these vampires have ended well. For instance, after Simon the Devious became obsessed with Laszlo’s cursed witch-skin hat, he became one of their worst enemies, a situation that only worsened when they invited Simon into their home. Meanwhile, the vampires from the orgy are unlikely to ever want to see or invite Nadja and Laszlo ever again after the two professed their love for one another and ruined the event. As for the local vampiric council, Nandor’s familiar and bodyguard Guillermo ended up killing them all during the end of season 2 of What We Do In The Shadows. All of these encounters prove that, despite initial appearances, vampiric society is actually the worst option for Laszlo – or any vampire – to find a best friend.
Furthermore, not only has Laszlo always been drawn to spending time with humans, he’s actually pretty good at it. This was shown in detail in season 2 episode 6 of What We Do In The Shadows, in which Laszlo’s party-throwing skills became indispensable when he assumed his Jackie Daytona persona. Although Laszlo only moved to Pennsylvania and created the identity of human bartender Jackie Daytona to escape his 167-year-old debt to Jim the Vampire – and also killed the owner of the bar he took over – he managed to capture the hearts of the locals and even raised money for the local girls' volleyball team. This implies that Laszlo has a natural aptitude for navigating human society.
There’s also something to be said about how Laszlo and Sean seem to click. While Nandor and Laszlo’s double hypnotism on Sean erased his memories in season 1 episode 3 of What We Do In The Shadows, Laszlo and Sean reunited in season 3 episode 4, during which the vampires went to Atlantic City with a group of humans. After Sean lends Laszlo money, Laszlo helps Sean earn back a large sum of money that he lost gambling, although Sean loses it all again anyway. Later, Laszlo becomes Sean’s attorney in small claims court, and even helps him sell pillows to pay off a pyramid scheme debt. Moreover, Laszlo doesn’t seem to need his Jackie Daytona persona in order to hang out with Sean, suggesting a naturally strong relationship. While Laszlo and Sean's complicated friendship might be slightly unorthodox, it's clear that in the world of What We Do In The Shadows, such a relationship would be impossible to maintain with a fellow vampire.
