Lazlo looking skeptical in What We Do in the Shadows

While the comedy is the main reason to watch the show, the What We Do in the Shadows action sequences have been surprisingly effective and fans got one of the best ones yet in season 5. The episode takes place in a mansion where the group finds themselves picked off one by one by a supernatural force. Laszlo is targeted when practicing his fencing, facing off with a masked opponent who keeps multiplying. Laszlo not only seems unconcerned with the duplicating enemy but continues to fight them all off expertly. When it becomes an eight-on-one fight Laszlo's confidence remains unphased suggesting they might actually have a chance now.

Season 5, Episode 6 - "Urgent Care"

Lazlo and Guillermo standing outside in What We Do in the Shadows

Laszlo proves himself a friend to Guillermo in What We Do in the Shadows season 5 as he is the first to learn that Guillermo is a vampire. He then helps figure out what is going on with Guillermo's strange transformation by using his blood in animal experiments. This results in some strange creatures, including some frogs that Guillermo points out are surprisingly hairy. However, Laszlo points out that Guillermo is hairy too so he shouldn't be so judgmental. It is a hilarious moment that shows Laszlo still can't help but talk harshly to Guillermo and the fact that nothing is strange enough to really phase him.

Sean in a sweater talking to the vampires in What We do in the Shadows

Despite living with a group of fellow vampires, Laszlo's best friend in What We Do in the Shadows is his human neighbor Shaun. Laszlo is a cultured vampire yet he takes a liking to Sean's blue-collar and simple way of life. Their relationship inevitably leads to a lot of covering up the fact that they are vampires including Nador and Laszlo using too much hypnotism on Sean and giving him the "brain scramblies." But when it is suggested they should kill Sean, Laszlo launches into this ode to how much Sean means to him. It starts out sweet and then just gets hilariously absurd the more it goes on.

17 "Not A Human, Not Yet A Vampire, To Paraphrase One Of Your Contemporary Musical Troubadour."

Season 5, Episode 7 - "Hybrid Creatures"

There is obviously a lot of humor in the fish-out-of-water aspect of the show. It is especially funny when these ancient vampires attempt to participate in modern pop culture. As Laszlo is conducting the experiments and attempting to help Guillermo with his transformation, he explains how he is in between a human and a vampire, reminding him of the song "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" by Britney Spears. The way Laszlo speaks of Spears with such reverence and sophistication suggests his eclectic tastes are even more interesting and far-reaching than they appear.

16 "I Stand Corrected."

Season 3, Episode 4 - "The Casino"

Laszlo smoking a pipe in What We Do in the Shadows

The vampires usually don't venture outside of their home on Staten Island, but when they do, it is a lot of fun. One of the highlights was an episode in which they all took a trip to Atlantic City to hit the casinos. As can be expected at a casino, the vampires run into some Rat Pack impersonators and Laszlo reveals that he used to hang out with them back in the day, adding more elements to his long, exciting life. The funniest moment comes when Laszlo questions why Frank Sinatra is now a Chinese man, but when the impersonator responds with Sinatra's signature "ring-a-ding-ding" that is enough proof to satisfy Laszlo's questions.

15 "I Gave You Those Raccoons As A Bloody Gift."

Season 1, Episode 2 - City Council

Laszlo wearing a white powdered wig and black robe in What We Do in the Shadows

In part of their early plans to conquer America, Laszlo and the others decided to start with the Staten Island city council. Laszlo takes the approach of trying to get one of the council on their side by helping her with the raccoon problem. The image of a massive pile of dead raccoons on this woman's porch is funny enough. But then the next time the vampires attend one of the council meetings, Laszlo is genuinely confused that she is upset with his thoughtful gift.

14 "You Really Are The Most Devious Bastard In New York City."

Season 4, Episode 8 - Go Flip Yourself

Laszlo looking disappointed in What We Do in the Shadows.

The biggest reason Laszlo is such a fun character is Matt Berry's amazing performance. Specifically, Berry has the ability to take any ordinary line and turn it into something hilarious with his unusual and captivating delivery. When the rival vampire Simon the Devious, one of the best What We Do In the Shadows villains, pulls off an elaborate prank to get back at Laszlo, he calls him out with this fairly tame declaration. However, Berry's strange yet wonderful musical delivery of "New York City" makes it instantly hilarious.

13 "I Was Doing The Bloody Disco 100 Years Before Any Other F***er."

Season 2, Episode 8 - Collaboration

Laszlo at the piano in What We Do in the Shadows

One of the most entertaining aspects of Laszlo is learning about all the various things throughout history he has been involved with and influenced. From pornography to psychiatry, he has done it all. But his musical career is one of the funniest revelations. After hearing the pop song "Come on Eileen," Laszlo insists it was ripped off from a song he wrote centuries ago. He then discovers many of his songs have been copied and even angrily claims he invented disco. It is hilarious to envision his musical past and the line is another epic delivery from Berry.

12 "Because We're Vampires My Squeaky-Voice, F***ing Bersserk, Nutjob, Idiot Friend."

Season 5, Episode 9 - "A Weekend at Morrigan Manor"

Nadya, Lazlo, and Nandor looks dejected while standing by the door in What We Do In The Shadows

While Guillermo usually gets most of the abuse from the vampires in the show, another character shares the brunt of their insults and rudeness in season 5. Kristen Schaal's The Guide has become a more integral part of the What We Do in the Shadows cast now though she is already growing tired of being mistreated so stages a bit of revenge. However, Laszlo reveals via misleading videotape evidence that they actually speak kindly to her in private. But his explanation for this feels like he is struggling to maintain a nice and friendly tone while continuing to hurl insults at her. The idea that he can barely contain his harsh words even while his life depends on it is hilarious.

11 "Well Then You Get In Your Car And You Drive Back To The Amazon."

Season 1, Episode 10 - Ancestry

Laszlo wearing a top hat at night in What We Do in the Shadows

While the show has grown into something much more than a fish-out-of-water story of vampires trying to navigate the modern world, those jokes can often still be the funniest. Laszlo and the others have been around for countries yet put no effort into staying current. When Laszlo finds Guillermo with wooden stakes, he angrily confronts him about it. He demands to know where Guillermo got them and when he replies Amazon, Laszlo immediately assumes the jungle, not taking a moment to question if that makes any sense.
