The finale of the fourth season of FX’s hilarious mockumentary, What We Do in the Shadows, recently premiered and introduced one-off characters like Mahatma Ghandi and Leonardo da Vinci. The series is full of well-written characters like these who only appear in one episode.

The best one-off characters often go on to become fan favorites despite their brief stint with the gang. These include the villainous witch Lilith and the manipulative Familiar Doctor Tom. There’s a good chance some of them will show up again in future episodes, especially considering the series is already certainly getting a fifth and sixth season.

Lilith

Lilith is a villain in What We Do in the Shadows who gets her chance to shine when she abducts Laszlo and Nandor. Fans later learn that she has a storied past with Nadja, who used to be her closest friend. A major betrayal by Lilith has turned them into sworn enemies, however, and influences their interaction when Nadja confronts her about the kidnapping.

The witch has unique abilities that she gets a chance to display when they fight, which include magically pinning Nadja to the ceiling and transforming into a poor copycat of her. Their rivalry was never really resolved so it would be interesting to see them meet again in the future.

Wallace

Wallace in What We Do in the Shadows.

When Topher unfortunately es after a comical accident, Nadja seeks out an old friend who happens to be a necromancer to resurrect him. Laszlo was right to be skeptical about Wallace’s skills and intentions, though, as instead of bringing him back to life, he reanimates the former Familiar, turning him into a zombie.

Wallace’s gut-busting mistake costs the vampires, which is why he tries to make it right the only way he knows how – free souvenirs. It’s a wacky situation from start to finish, which is why it’s disappointing that he hasn’t shown up again since then.

Celeste

Celeste from What We Do in the Shadows

Celeste presents the perfect opportunity for Guillermo to finally escape the neglect and ungratefulness he experiences with Nandor. Even though it’s eventually revealed that she was faking it the whole time, she was an effective poser who displayed what a cool vampire could be like.

It was fun to watch her provide her followers with Shake Shack and keep re-arranging the furniture in her sleek house. It’s doubtful that she survived her master’s retaliation, which is likely why she hasn’t appeared on the show since that bloody event.

Jim The Vampire

Jim the Vampire raising his hands and wearing a cape in What We Do in the Shadows.

The relationship between Jim and Laszlo soured after Laszlo skipped out on paying his last month of rent. After decades of hunting him down, Jim finally confronts him in his home and then tracks him down in Pennsylvania after he runs away. It’s an absurd cat-and-mouse chase with numerous comical moments.

Given the sidesplitting cliffhanger the episode ends with, there’s a good chance Jim will be back to exact revenge for the way Laszlo lied about the Mechanical Turk. Jim is even more out of touch than the main gang, so it’ll be wildly entertaining to see him on the show again.

Topher Delmonico

Nadja and Laszlo have a difficult time looking for a Familiar because of one main reason – they just keep dying. Topher is the only one who sticks around for a little longer, but he also unfortunately happens to be arrogant and manipulative (a fact that the vampires don’t notice).

It’s funny to see the interactions between Topher and Guillermo, as the original Familiar is offended by how uncaring and self-centered the new hire is. Topher will probably never appear again because he’s literally buried beneath the ground, but given the Baron’s miraculous comeback, it’s still a possibility.

Sheila The Siren

Colin and Sheila in What We Do in the Shadows

They may have only had a brief affair, but Sheila and Colin’s romantic relationship was a pleasant surprise that ended way too soon. While Laszlo is convinced that Colin has been enchanted by the “half-chicken” siren, a telling scene hints at the genuine feelings the energy vampire had for her.

Sheila is a truly original character who appears to have a bird-like lower half and a regular upper body. She also has an absorbing singing voice to complement her terrible speaking one. Could she still be on that island waiting for Colin to come back for her? Only a future episode will be able to depict her fate.

Black Peter

Colin, Nadja, and Black Peter from What We Do in the Shadows

Black Peter is a minor character who is mostly memorable because he’s a talking goat, not to mention a completely creepy one. He’s responsible for luring Laszlo and Nandor to the coven, but isn’t seen again until the end of the episode.

The best part of his character is the way he gets along with Guillermo, though, as the Familiar can relate to the way they’re both unappreciated by their masters. If Lilith makes a comeback, Black Pete will hopefully tag along, as Guillermo will certainly like the companionship in what is sure to be another wild misadventure.

Evie Russell

Colin’s best love interest in the series is undoubtedly Evie, a fellow energy vampire who preys on her victims by draining their emotions. She’s a convincing liar, often using fake sob stories to get attention, which is what attracts Colin to her in the first place.

The two of them are the perfect power couple and there’s an unforgettable scene that proves the way they complement each other. When they work together, they can drain someone in a matter of seconds, which is why it’s sad to see them part so quickly. Evie will hopefully appear again in the future and for more than a B-plot in one episode.

Jan

Jan and Nandor from What We Do in the Shadows

The cult leader Jan served a crucial role in Nandor’s transformation in WWDITS, as she managed to lure in the vampire during his most vulnerable state. She convinces her followers that they can leave behind their identity as vampires and embrace humanity once again, by simply removing their fangs every day and pretending to eat food.

Jan is humorous in a disturbing way and there’s nothing she won’t do to preserve her cult – she even kills every member once they start doubting her. If she’s out there forming a new cult, it would be great to see her in action again.

Doctor Tom

Richie Suck and Doctor Tom from What We Do in the Shadows

One of the recent one-off characters introduced in the show is Doctor Tom, a manipulative and controlling Familiar who convinces his master, Richie Suck, not to perform in Nadja’s nightclub. This motivates Nadja to isolate Richie and show him that he has been brainwashed by his own Familiar.

Doctor Tom’s storyline takes an even funnier turn when he begins promoting his own works on Nadja’s stage, which rightly soon leads to his death by being attacked by the crowd of vampires. Because of that violent ending, he likely won’t be coming back or appearing outside that single episode.
