Marvel Cinematic Universe if there was a zombie outbreak that turned the world’s superheroes into zombies, and through this story, the MCU also showed how dangerous the Quantum Realm really is. In over a decade, the MCU has brought a variety of characters from Marvel Comics to the big screen, along with important events, concepts, planets, realms, and more, and one that is still a mystery to both characters in this universe and the audience is the Quantum Realm. This is a confirmed dimension in the multiverse, and as the MCU’s Phase 4 is focusing heavily on the multiverse, there’s a lot more to learn about the Quantum Realm, and What If…? has teased some of its dangers.
Phase 4 is covering both TV shows and movies to further expand this extensive connected universe, and after three live-action TV series, fans are now enjoying the animated anthology series What If…?. The series explores what would have happened in the MCU had some of its biggest and most defining events happened differently, whether by a character making a different decision or some events happening slightly differently than in the main timeline. So far, What If…? has visited timelines where Peggy Carter became Captain Carter, T’Challa became Star-Lord, Hank Pym killed the Avengers, and Doctor Strange became evil, and the latest one was all about Marvel Zombies.
Ant-Man and the Wasp), but when he got there, he found a very different Janet, one who contracted a “quantum virus” that “corrupted her brain” and turned her into a zombie. Janet attacked Hank, and when they returned, they attacked Scott Lang while their daughter, Hope, managed to escape thanks to her Wasp suit. Within 24 hours, the virus had spread, turning thousands of people, including some of the MCU’s heroes, like Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Captain America, into zombies.
As mentioned above, the Avengers: Endgame, who felt he was there for a short amount of time when in reality he spent five years in that dimension. Of course, to travel to this dimension, special equipment is required, but as seen in What If…?, not even that would be enough to stop a virus from infecting a person.
If the Quantum Realm can house a “quantum virus” that “corrupts the brain” and turns a person into a zombie, it can also be a source of other, unknown, unfathomable threats, worse than a virus that triggers the zombie apocalypse. The Quantum Realm will be further explored in What If…? has served as a good tease of bigger and more exciting things in the MCU, and hopefully, this universe won’t forget about the potential dangers of the Quantum Realm.
