the Washington Liberation Front much bigger than they were expecting; they’re not the only hostile faction in the city.
The W.L.F. is in the midst of a full-blown civil war with a religious cult called the Seraphites — or, as the Wolves mockingly call them, the Scars. Before Ellie and Dina leave Jackson, the episode briefly cuts away to a forest clearing in Seattle, where a group of Seraphites are disturbed by a warning of nearby danger. When Ellie and Dina ride through the forest later in the episode, they find that all these Seraphites have been killed.
The Prophet Founded The Seraphites But Was Killed By The WLF Before The Events Of The Last Of Us Season 2
The Prophet Had A Vision Of Utopian Post-Pandemic Life
Shortly after the Cordyceps outbreak, the Seraphite Prophet (who remains unnamed throughout the game), had a vision of how utopian life could be in the new post-apocalyptic world. She founded the Seraphite religion on the basis of leading an egalitarian lifestyle free from physical pleasure and modern technology. She gained a fervent following of cultists who cut their faces as a show of loyalty (hence the “Scars” slur). Recognizing the existential threat posed by the Prophet’s teachings, the W.L.F. captured and executed her before the events of The Last of Us season 2.
Everything Revealed About The Prophet In The Last Of Us Part 2 Game
The Prophet's Teachings Got Twisted
Although the Prophet never actually appears on-screen in The Last of Us Part II, the game reveals a lot of information about her. Ellie and Dina first learn about the Prophet when they spot murals depicting her image with the tagline, “Feel her love.” We get a better idea of what the Prophet preached when the game introduces its main Seraphite characters, Lev and Yara. According to Yara, Seraphites believe that the Prophet’s love “guides” them through hardship, and according to Lev, there’s a huge disconnect between what the Seraphites have become and what the Prophet originally envisioned.
After the Prophet was killed, the Elders took over the cult and twisted her teachings to suit their own desires. They doubled down on the violence that had corrupted the Prophet’s original vision and they each handpicked multiple underage “wives” from the community, so they strayed pretty far from the Prophet’s vision. The Prophet is one of The Last of Us’ most fascinating unseen characters, and the TV show has the opportunity to expand on her even further.
