Laura Bileskalne was the second steward on Below Deck Down Under season 2 until she was fired; what is she up to now? Laura was introduced on the Peacock/Bravo series during the first episode of the season. She and Chief Steward Aesha Scott immediately hit it off since Laura had so much experience on yachts and in the hospitality industry. However, as Aesha and the rest of the crew got to know her, it became clear that Laura wasn't the sweet person they thought she was.
Not only would Laura try to fight Aesha on minor things like using real limes instead of lime juice in drinks or whether or not she was doing enough work, but Laura also only cared about herself. She developed a crush on Bosun Luke Jones and hooked up with him as soon as he had the chance. Despite him acting creepy toward Margot Sisson, who was a part of Laura's interior team, she continued to chase after him. Finally, Laura was fired along with Luke after he sexually harassed Margot, and Laura showed she was Team Luke more than Margot. So what has the former stew been up to?
Laura Put Her Instagram On Private
She Received A Lot Of Public Backlash
Shortly after Laura was fired, her Instagram page was on and off private mode. She received a lot of backlash for not only sticking up for Luke after he crawled into Margot's bunk without her consent but also for harassing Deckhand Adam Kodra. Laura clearly couldn't handle the negative attention and decided to hide away from it at first.
Laura Stood For Herself & Luke After They Were Fired
She Showed Her Callous Insensitivity
Several weeks after Laura was fired from Below Deck Down Under, she did a podcast interview on The Kyle & Jackie O Show (via Luke's sexual harassment incident out of context.
She said in her interview, "I was fired because I stood up for Luke. Margot Sisson was not unconscious, you can see in the video that she is talking to him."
Laura continued to say that Luke asked Margot if she was okay, and she responded yes; she claims Luke and Margot were simply continuing "the party after the jacuzzi." From Laua's perspective (via Access Hollywood), it was a misunderstanding, which is a problematic point of view.
Laura has demonstrated that she still feels the same way about the situation that happened between Luke and Margot, and she has paid the price for it.
As for her relationship with Luke, they follow each other on Instagram, but it is unclear if their relationship extends beyond that. Laura garnered her negative reputation for her unpopular opinions, cold demeanor, and overinflated ego.
Laura Has A New Focus In Her Life
Is She Still In Yachting?
Laura seems to have left the yachtie life as a stewardess behind, although she hasn't stated what her reason for leaving that role in the industry was. However, she does claim to still be in yachting, but as a Yacht Chef. These days, Laura calls Miami home, but she seems to have a second home base in Barcelona. On her Instagram, she directs fans to 1 Table Rooftop Restaurant's Instagram page. She appears to be a chef at the restaurant.
While her Instagram is still private, she does tout her yachting experience and also notes that she likes wine, food, and travel. Laura also directs followers to @cocina_de_laurinya where she runs a "Private terrace for rent.Private events Company meetings." On both of the Instagram pages Laura is a part of she has received a lot of negative comments. It seems Below Deck fans have started using those pages to bashes the former Stewardess and air their grievances about her behavior.
Laura has one of the top villain statuses in Below Deck history, and she isn't likely to shake that negative perception unless she shows a softer, empathetic side somehow. She could make her private Instagram public again and handle her Below Deck backlash with more poise and grace. Since leaving Below Deck Down Under season 2, Laura has kept a low profile. While she spoke out while her Instagram was public, she has since remained out of the spotlight.
Would Laura Ever Return To The Below Deck Franchise?
Probably Not
With Laura remaining out of the spotlight since her time on Below Deck Down Under season 2, it's highly unlikely that she will return to the franchise. Laura wasn't a fan favorite among the audience, even before she took Luke's side after the assault accusations, so she's probably not eagerly waiting to return any time soon, or ever. Laura has moved on from her days as a Stew anyway, as she now works as a Yacht Chef. Before her time on the show, Laura provided a cooking service in Spain, so her new career is more aligned with what she's done in the past.
With her social media set to private, it's difficult to know her thoughts on the show and whether she said she'd return. However, judging by how her last season went, Laura wouldn't want to subject herself to the scrutiny, nor would viewers be excited to see her return. Laura was involved with a misconduct situation of her own during Below Deck Down Under season 2 when she made unwanted advances towards Adam. This could also be a reason why she wouldn't return. But overall, it seems Laura is better off never returning to Below Deck Down Under or the franchise in general.
Below Deck Down Under seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Peacock.
