Bonnie Bennett's constant self-sacrificing was always a shortcoming on Legacies as well. She started off as a normal teen on TVD, but got the worst end of the stick when it came to her own fate and the fates of her loved ones.
Her journey through 8 seasons was quite a rollercoaster, and Bonnie eventually grew out of being the one that fell on the sword to save the day all the time. She evolved into a stronger person, who knew that caring about herself was as important as saving her friends, and she made sure that they also understood the same, both through magic and without it.
Bonnie Discovered She Was A Witch And Psychic
At first, Bonnie was just a regular high schooler in the show, but her grandmother told her that she had a more supernatural destiny. Soon enough, Grams got proved right when her mind started showing her visions and dreams of things that were about to happen in the future.
With the help of Grams, she learned how to control and channel her volatile magic, and became one of the most powerful witches of her time. With Professor Shane, she learned Expression, and around Cade and the Sirens she also found out that she had psychic powers.
Bonnie's Magic Disappeared For A Long Time
Losing her magic was one of the worst things that happened to Bonnie Bennett in TVD, and she didn't get it back for a long time. For years she depended on her powers to save herself and her friends, but she sadly had to dull them down for fear of the Armory coming after her.
The anti-magic pills she took were fatal, and took away her magic for what seemed like forever. She only regained her strength and magic when she had to save Mystic Falls from Hellfire, which she did successfully, with a line of Bennett witches fueling her for .
Bonnie Started Prioritizing Herself
For too long, the Mystic Falls Gang depended on Bonnie to save the day. While there was nothing wrong with that, she often had to do it at the cost of her own happiness. She lost plenty of her family and even her life on multiple occasions, while her friends just used her to make their lives easy.
There were times when she was physically hurt but forced to do magic, but Bonnie learned how to say no. Some may say that Bonnie Bennett did bad things to prioritize herself, but nobody can blame her for her self-preservation skills kicking in. In the end, she started standing up for herself.
Bonnie Fell In Love, Then Lost It
There were many times that Bonnie fell for men, but her two great loves were Jeremy and Enzo. Jeremy treated Bonnie terribly, even though she gave him everything to keep him alive and well. Enzo was the man who treated her right, but Stefan killed him in cold blood.
Bonnie was wise for her age, but she did not deserve the kind of loss she was burdened with. She and Enzo were ready to start a new life and build a future together, but one thoughtless act ripped her attempt at love and romance apart.
Bonnie Lost Her Family
In the pursuit of helping her friends and fighting all the supernatural beings on The Vampire Diaries, Bonnie lost almost every single living relative. Starting with her Grams, who was overwhelmed by the spell to free the tomb vampires, to her mother who was cruelly turned into a vampire to stop Esther from accessing Bennett magic.
Her father was then murdered in front of the whole town, followed by her epic love Enzo whose heart was ripped out. A lot of these deaths had been avoidable, and Bonnie could have been saved from some heartbreaks by the writers.
Bonnie Died And Came Back To Life Multiple Times
Like other main characters, Bonnie died several times but managed to come back to life. In season 2, she pretended to be dead to fool Klaus, and then actually died in season 4 while trying to bring Jeremy back from the dead. She stayed a ghost for a while before becoming an Anchor to the Other Side.
When the Other Side came crashing down, she remained dead with Damon in the Gemini Prison World, only being able to leave after a long stretch of torture and harassment by Kai. As of the finale, she was alive and well.
Bonnie Became Several Types Of Supernatural Beings
By virtue of being a Bennett, Bonnie was born supernatural. She was first and foremost a witch, who then became a ghost after she died. After that, she became the Anchor, which meant that she was only half alive, and half-dead on the Other Side. This stint changed her, as she had to painfully absorb every supernatural death.
Bonnie also lost her powers, reverting to an average human for a time. Another notable transformation was of her as the Huntress, which Rayna Cruz ed on to her before dying. She was obligated to kill vampires, which was basically her entire circle, as a Huntress. Plenty of characters evolved throughout the series, but Bonnie certainly went through the most supernatural transformations.
Bonnie Became Best Friends With Damon
Damon and Bonnie were polar opposites and didn't even try to hide their distaste for each other early on. They had attacked each other various times, but got the chance to get to know each other in the Prison World. This led to a first reluctant, then full-fledged friendship between the two.
They nurtured and cared for each other even when they returned, and Damon cared so much that he saved her life various times, even though Bonnie's survival meant possibly losing out on decades with Elena.
Bonnie's Went To Multiple Realms, And Created One
Young Bonnie barely believed in psychic powers, let alone the existence of several realms and universes. Soon enough, she discovered what they were, and had pretty long stays in them too. As a ghost she wandered the Other Side, and became its anchor too.
When the Other Side came crashing down, she went to a Prison World. The alternate dimension was bewildering but that wasn't all for her. She also made a trip to Hell to fight Cade with Stefan, and when Enzo died, her explosion of pain created an alternate universe for Enzo's spirit to live on in.
Bonnie Left Mystic Falls To Go Traveling
Bonnie did go out of town a lot, but her parting message to fans was that she was going to go live a full life, traveling the world, far away from the chaos of Mystic Falls. Her first destination was Africa, and Bonnie intended to tour the world, as she had given her word to Enzo for it.
It was a good change for her to leave the town, because living there had caused her a lot of pain. It's unclear whether she made it back, but she was not in heaven with Elena and Damon, so she most likely is still alive and traveling.
