Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. An Activision employee recently revealed that Verdansk will be returning to Warzone Caldera map, while having some shortcomings, has proven to be popular with fans, although many still feel nostalgic about the original Verdansk map.
As a live-service game, Warzone is constantly seeing changes, updates, and the introduction of new pieces of content. These patches come through a seasonal model which tends to take into consideration the release of mainline series releases like Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War and Call of Duty: Vanguard. Perhaps the biggest change to the battle royale game came in the form of Warzone Pacific, which replaced the sprawling, war-torn Verdansk with the tropical Caldera map. This has opened the door to all sorts of new content, including new guns, events, and Operator skins based around this new theme and setting. Even though there were concerns regarding new maps and Warzone's file size, the developers at Raven Software managed to greatly shake things up with Caldera.
For any fans missing the days of Verdansk, Activision employee Alex Summers may have good news. In a clip that was shared by Reddit TheRealPdGaming, Summers comments that the team is hard at work on making both incremental and major changes to the Warzone map. He goes on to state that Verdansk will be coming back to the game "sometime next year" and only on certain platforms. He also states that the team is developing "Warzone 2.0", which will include a "new big map".
Summers's comments about "Warzone 2.0" and Verdansk only returning to certain platforms most likely mean that Verdansk will be making its way to mobile devices, as a Warzone Mobile has been confirmed by Activision. Considering the popularity and icon status of the Verdansk map, not to mention the work that has already been done deg it, it seems that a Verdansk port to mobile, with a larger map coming to the base game, is the most likely outcome.
Of course, this doesn't mean that Verdansk will never come back to the console and PC versions of Warzone. The map is undeniably popular and although Activision likely wants to continue to expand and build upon its game, there's little reason to deny players this map if enough demand is there. Call of Duty: Warzone is consistently growing, but fans will have to wait and see what this growth looks like across different platforms.
