The twins' birth wasn't conventional in twins, Billy and Tommy. Set in the '80s, more details are revealed about Wanda's control over Westview, but not when it comes to her boys. As Vision attempts to learn the truth about his wife's actions, the episode provides insight into Billy and Tommy's presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Following the birth of Billy and Tommy a few episodes prior, WandaVision episode 5 begins with Wanda and Vision raising their newborns. In true sitcom fashion, the couple use quips to illustrate the struggles of getting the babies to stop crying in the hopes they will finally sleep. After Agnes oddly misses her cue, the twins suddenly age another five years, surprising Wanda and Vision. Later, Billy and Tommy take advantage of their aging powers again to convince their parents to allow them to care for a new pet.
WandaVision has made it clear that Westview residents are real people trapped in Scarlet Witch's magic hexagon surrounding the town. Despite the revelation, there's still mystery regarding specific aspects of Wanda's reality as witnessed by S.W.O.R.D. in real-time. It could be assumed that Billy and Tommy are being played by boys pretending to be Wanda's children, but the various evidence hints otherwise.
Billy & Tommy's Powers Don't Fit Wanda's World
Aside from Wanda, Vision was the only other known figure in Westview with powers. That's no longer the case with Billy and Tommy thrown into the mix. The twins' abilities should come as no surprise, considering they came from two of the most powerful of the Avengers. That said, everyone else in Wanda's world is being fully controlled to the point that Westview's citizens are essentially hostages in the hexagon. So far, Billy and Tommy have only showcased their powers to age themselves years in mere seconds. After going from infants to 5-year-olds, the pair jump to 10 by the end of the episode.
Billy and Tommy's powers can be used independently from Wanda's control. Their abilities indicate Wanda and Vision's powers have seemingly been ed down to the twins, but they aren't the current source of the boy's capabilities. In Wanda's world within the hexagon, the female lead has the power to flip the setting from decade to decade. Appearances change, but characters aren't necessarily aging. Billy and Tommy's ability to age instantly is not something previously seen in WandaVision. Thus far, their rapid growth provides compelling evidence that the young boys are very much real despite their unconventional introduction to the world.
The Twins Know The Truth About Scarlet Witch
Unlike the other citizens of Westview, Wanda doesn't make much of an attempt to suppress her powers in front of her sons. As the figure starts to become more comfortable with her environment, she seems to be relaxing the efforts in hiding the truth. Whereas Vision is still worried about covering up their identities, Wanda continues to be freer with secrets. When Billy and Tommy find a stray dog, attracting Agnes to stop by, Wanda openly uses her power in front of her neighbor. Agnes doesn't directly mention the powers within the family, but she also shows no signs of alarm.
After the dog goes missing, Agnes reveals Sparky ed away after ingesting a poisonous plant. Billy and Tommy beg their mother to resurrect Sparky, indicating that they're fully aware of Wanda's powers. Even though they know what Wanda is capable of, they don't seem to grasp the situation they're in fully. To them, having parents with special powers may be entirely normal. Granted, their lives have been relatively short compared to their supposed age. Despite appearing as 10-year-old, they're technically newborns.
Scarlet Witch Cannot Control Her Sons Like Other Westview Residents
"On a Very Special Episode..." sheds more light on the control Wanda has over the citizens of Westview. While Vision is at work, he receives an email from Darcy mentioning the situation in town. Vision then breaks the trance taking hold of his co-worker Norm, who is suffering from excruciating pain as a victim of Wanda's mind control. The rest of the Westview residents are assumingly under the same authority, except Vision and the twins.
As the one pulling the strings, Wanda has no say in her sons' actions. At the start of the episode, the infants fail to stop crying as Wanda and Vision try to get their sons to fall asleep. Wanda even tries to use her powers to control the babies, but the magic fails to silence the twins. Seeing as Billy and Tommy's powers are independent of her own, she also has no restraint in their decisions to age rapidly. The twins may obtain other powers as they continue to age in WandaVision, linking more closely to their comic book counterparts. If they make it out of Wanda's world, they will certainly exist without Wanda's authority.
SWORD Proved The Twins Can Be Real
The best form of evidence suggesting Billy and Tommy are real stems from S.W.O.R.D.'s outright attempt at confirming the twin's existence. When Jimmy questions identifying the "minors" portraying the boys in Wanda's sitcom world, Monica clarifies that the twins are real, not trapped kids acting as residents. While questions remain regarding the figures' creation and respective powers, WandaVision proves that Billy and Tommy won't revert to other boys if for S.W.O.R.D. shuts down Wanda's hexagon.
To explain Billy and Tommy's unique existence, Monica uses her outfit previously worn in Westview to show that anything Wanda touches is real. Appearances can change, but physically, anything seen in Westview is a real object or living thing. Billy and Tommy may have been born in Westview, but their MCU journeys likely won't end there. If anything, this could be the start of the twins' presence in the franchise before growing into of the Young Avengers. That certainly wouldn't be the case if Billy and Tommy turn out to be products of Wanda's fake world. The evidence, however, is pointing that the WandaVision twins are here to stay.
