Wanda Credits

The divide between Wanda and Vision in the opening credits is hammered home by the fact that "Breaking the Fourth Wall" is the first episode of WandaVision where the two leads share absolutely no screen time. Wanda even acknowledged Vision's free will when she told her sons, "Well, if he doesn't want to be here, there's nothing I can do about it." Instead, Vision is paired up with Dr. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), whose memories the synthezoid restores. Together, they have a misadventure where they are literally blocked from getting Vision back to Wanda before the former Avenger re that he can fly.

Meanwhile, Wanda is trying not to mentally unravel during her self-imposed quarantine, but she's confronted by a newly superpowered Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) before Scarlet Witch discovers that her next-door neighbor, Agnes (Kathryn Hahn), is a witch named Agatha Harkness who has been manipulating WandaVision behind the scenes all along. While Vision suspected Wanda was magically keeping him from returning to her, it could actually be Agatha blocking the couple from reuniting so she can isolate and prey on Scarlet Witch.

With WandaVision's endgame in sight and the big bad of the series revealed, "Breaking the Fourth Wall" could be preparing the audience for the chance that Vision and Wanda won't get a happy ending. S.W.O.R.D. is outside of the Hex looking to take down Maximoff and reacquire Vision. Meanwhile, Wanda played right into Agatha Harkness' hands all along. As Darcy said, Vision and Wanda's love is real and they belong together; they're also more powerful side-by-side than apart. No doubt the heroic synthezoid will come to rescue his Sokovian wife, but when the Hex eventually comes down, there may not be a happy ending where Wanda and Vision get to stay together, and episode 7's credits already planted the seed for it.
