After watching Goggins give an all-time great performance as Rick each week, it’s difficult to say goodbye to the character following his tragic The White Lotus season 3 ending. While Rick’s story is over, Goggins isn’t saying goodbye to leading HBO Sunday nights quite yet. Goggins Portrays Uncle Baby Billy In All Four Seasons

Since March 9, Walton Goggins has had two hit HBO shows airing on Sunday nights, as new episodes of The Righteous Gemstones season 4 immediately followed the broadcast of The White Lotus season 3. Though The White Lotus season 3’s finale on April 6 means he’s back to one currently-airing series, The Righteous Gemstones season 4 still has three more episodes left to release through May 4. Sadly, The Righteous Gemstones’ series is ending with season 4, so Goggins will have had two major HBO finales within the span of five weeks.

Walton Goggins previously starred in another HBO series, Vice Principals, which was also created by The Righteous Gemstones' Danny McBride.

Of course, Goggins has spent much longer playing The Righteous Gemstones’ Uncle Baby Billy Freeman than he did portraying The White Lotus’ Rick Hatchett. Goggins has starred in Danny McBride’s comedy series since its 2019 debut, playing 70-something-year-old Uncle Baby Billy despite Goggins himself only being about 49 when he originated the role. While Goggins isn’t as centered at the forefront of the show as the titular Gemstone family , his hilarious performance is one of the most beloved aspects of the HBO series, which holds an impressive 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rick & Baby Billy Showcase Walton Goggins' Incredible Range

The Righteous Gemstones contains one of Walton Goggins’ greatest roles, but Baby Billy is a far cry from The White Lotus’ Rick. While Rick is a solemn, brooding, but still well-meaning man, Baby Billy is loud, proud, theatrical, greedy, occasionally crude, and always looking at how to capitalize on his next church-related business scheme. If you put Baby Billy in a room with Rick, the latter would probably be too overwhelmed and immediately try avoiding any conversation. Meanwhile, Baby Billy would likely try to manipulate Rick into helping him with some sort of outlandish plan he has brewing.

The fact that Baby Billy and Rick are so drastically different from one another makes it all the more exciting that they were both airing on the same Sunday nights for a few weeks. Going directly from seeing Goggins play Rick to seeing him play Baby Billy gives the feeling of whiplash, as it’s hard to believe they’re portrayed by the same actor. It just goes to show how impressive Walton Goggins’ acting range is, as The White Lotus and The Righteous Gemstones showcase two distinct skill sets in drama and comedy.
