Raff & Genevieve

The bittersweet love story between Wakefield Hospital patient Genevieve (Harriet Dyer) and her husband Raff Lasko (Ryan Corr) is among the most compelling arcs in the show. Genevieve is a talented landscape gardener with a beautiful soul who goes to extreme emotional poles, making viewers' hearts absolutely ache for her to get better with treatment.

Raff is Genevieve's kindhearted, caring, and deeply devoted husband whose loyalty is severely tested when her sexuality is reinvigorated in the hospital. Despite appearing in a truncated 3-episode arc, the married couple remains committed to each other in ways that prove love trumps all.

Rohan Achebe

Rohan looks puzzled at his desk on Wakefield

So bad at his job that he literally fears facing his patients, Dr. Rohan Achebe (Pacharo Mzembe) spends much of his time hiding from the staff and playing online video games, his intense addiction for which could possibly have him committed to Wakefield as an official patient. Feeling inferior and far too unprepared to function at his job, everyone can relate to Rohan's deep insecurities.

Aside from his relatable video game addiction as well, what makes Rohan such a joy to watch is how constantly flummoxed he becomes in his attempt to act professionally, offering much-needed levity at the most unexpected times. For example, Rohan's interaction with the aggressive boxer Baz (Colin Friels) is one of the most amusing parts of the show.

Zelco Radulovic

Zelco sits by a window alone on Wakefield

Despite his disheveled appearance and quirky personality on the adored Showtime series, Zelco Radulovic (Kim Gyngell) is dedicated to an irable lifelong mission that makes him impossible to dislike. Sent to Wakefield for a mood disorder, Zelco is a self-proclaimed anti-establishment figure who rails against the system. His cure? Creating racial harmony and ending global racism through his original music.

Indeed, Zelco believes he has been chosen to bring all of the races together and argues to no end with those who disagree with him. Delusional as he may be, Zelco's heart is in the right place and his round rebuke of his father's intense racism shows how far he's come from his upbringing.

Trevor Paulson

Trevor plays guitar by the fire exit on Wakefield

Whether he's cranking out songs that he wrote on his guitar, wearing a silly Davey Crocket hat, or doing his best to score a date with a local store employee, Trevor Paulson (Harry Greenwood) is a fun, flawed, and fully-dimensional character that is easy to identify with and root for on the superb medical drama. Trevor's youthful exuberance as one of the youngest patients often leads to the biggest and most-needed laughs in the hospital.

Between his wily street smarts and cheeky sense of humor, Trevor is able to remain friendly with the staff and fellow patients, even when his image is often painted as a pariah. The way Trevor convinces a woman into thinking he's a nurse in order to score a date and the hilarious consequences that ensue are among Trevor's most endearing moments.

Collette Allan

As a new-age hippie type prone to never-ending self-help advice, Collette Allan (Felicity Ward) is one of the warmest and most endearing characters on the show. Not only does she march to the beat of her own drum and defy traditional medical practices, but she does so with a constant smile and chipper attitude that keeps her company extremely pleasant. Her "Power of the Punani" yoga exercises are among the most entertaining aspects of the show.

As opposed to the mean-spirited Linda, Collette genuinely sees the good in people and acts accordingly. Her extreme generosity as a single mother to two teenagers only reinforces her compelling characteristics. Funny, flaky, and fully rounded, Collette is one of the biggest reasons to watch Wakefield.

Ivy Azizi

Nik greets Ivy at Wakefield on Wakefield

Sent to Wakefield for her postnatal depression, Ivy Azizi (Megan Smart) is one of the easiest characters to sympathize with on the well-received Australian TV show. Along with her two-month-old daughter Saskia, Ivy's time under Nik's care is both eye-opening and heartrending at once.

As one of the few characters who have an eye on their release from the hospital, Ivy's increased confidence as a caretaker is met with her intense anxiety to reenter the outside world. Nik does his best to prepare for her departure, but Ivy's lasting concerns become central to the viewer's dramatic investment.

Colin/Mr. Invisible

Colin holds a stone in Wakefield

With a soft, gentle, and poetic soul, Mr. Invisible is the name of Colin's (Guy Simon) alter ego, which happens to be a figment of his hallucinations. Due to his childhood love of superheroes, Colin believes he is invisible, hinting at a playful childlike demeanor almost every person can relate to.

Due to his unique condition, Colin moves between the hospital and housing community, making him a friendly face wherever he goes. Whether he experiences the highs of pranking his older brother Tony or the lows of experiencing temperamental swings, Colin is a sweet boy who leaves a profoundly indelible emotional mark on the series.

Nik Katira

Nik and Karina dance together on Wakefield

As the series protagonist who uses his brilliant expertise in the field of psychiatry to help various patients get over their troubles, Nik Katira is the most likable character on Wakefield. On a professional level, his dogged mission to treat each patient specifically tailored to their own psychological needs show how much he truly cares.

On a personal level, Nik's compelling nature is reinforced through his quest to identify the cryptic song stuck in his head, uncover the mysterious truth regarding his brother's death, interact with his sister Renuka (Monica Kumar) to find their mother's missing ring, and his ability to reconcile with Kareena. In the end, Nick's huge heart matches his vast intellect, making him the most magnetic character of all.
