Where can Vision go next in the MCU after Avengers: Age of Ultron, the sythezoid has been a man of many deaths. In an act of desperation, Vision requested his own girlfriend destroy the Mind Stone in his head before Thanos could get his big, purple hands on it. Even though Wanda Maximoff complied, Thanos was able to rewind time and kill Vision himself by ripping the stone out. Beset by grief, Wanda fled to the home she and Vision had planned to share and recreated her lover using the Mind Stone energy infused within her.

Although Wanda's Vision is initially unaware that anything is amiss, he soon becomes suspicious, and WandaVision is as much Vision's tale of self-discovery as it is Wanda's tale of moving on. To complicate matters, WandaVision introduces a counterpart in the form of White Vision. Created by SWORD and Director Hayward, this pasty replica is constructed from Vision's recovered body parts and brought to life by Wanda's Chaos Magic. The two Visions do battle in WandaVision's final episode, and the Westview neighborhood watch member is able to overcome SWORD's weapon with a simple paradox. Vision unlocks the memories of White Vision, and the latter flies off into the unknown.

The Vision created by Wanda is almost certainly dead. Without the Hex, not even the Scarlet Witch can sustain her resurrected husband, and after such an emotional farewell, it makes little sense for this Vision to ever return. White Vision, however, is a different story entirely. Although the synthezoid was initially a servant to SWORD, fighting against the other Vision brought out a degree of sentience. When White Vision's memories are being restored, it's as if the Vision created by Wanda es over his experiences, feelings and characteristics to the new body. If there was any doubt, White Vision's "I am Vision" line confirms that Paul Bettany's time in the MCU is very far from over.

WandaVision White Vision

But how, exactly, does this new Vision compare to the original? In of appearance, White Vision should be able to alter his design at will, meaning the traditional beetroot paint job could come back into fashion. Whether Vision will share the same personality and characteristics as his counterpart, however, is far more complicated.

The new Vision has all the memories of his predecessor, and exists within the same physical shell, more or less. Inevitably, the character's return will trigger a philosophical discussion over what defines a person. Are memories enough, or will SWORD's Vision feel disconnected from the past he re, but didn't experience in this current form">WandaVision's finale touches upon this dilemma with the Ship of Theseus analogy, but the answer won't become clear until Vision and Wanda eventually reunite. If Vision's feelings for Wanda have returned along with his memories, then the Avenger has effectively cheated death once again. But if he can't recreate the love Scarlet Witch shared with the original Vision, this iteration has to be considered an entirely new character.

The new Vision's power level also might've changed compared to the pre-Thanos years. White Vision has the beating of his opponent in Westview, but was merely battling a facsimile created by Wanda - not the full-power Vision who fought alongside the Avengers. The WandaVision fight suggests that Vision is still powerful - made of vibranium, able to shoot lasers, fly and phase through matter - but he isn't fueled by an Infinity Stone. Even if Wanda's Vision was able to the Mind Stone's energy into White Vision when touching his forehead, he'd still pack less of a punch than the original, who was hooked up to an Infinity Stone 24/7.

It seems clear that Vision will return in the MCU, but where that happens isn't quite so obvious. A potential WandaVision season 2 would be the most obvious reentry point, but with Wanda due to feature in Tony Stark's legacy, but Vision is the product of Stark's desire to wrap a suit of armor around the world.
