WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Virgin River season 4.

The fourth installment of Virgin River has been showing on Netflix for only a couple of days, but the season is already being hailed as its best yet. The comfort show has become a favorite with viewers, and this time, like all other seasons, they were treated with some heartwarming and funny quotes from the characters.

Doc, Hope, Mel, Jack, and Brie returned with their complex and engaging stories, along with new, likable characters like Cameron and Denny, proving some fan predictions right about the show. These quotable lines by them, from all seasons, prove why the show is so loved by fans.

“I Would Give Anything For Just One More Afternoon...”

Lilly - Season 2, Episode 7.

Lilly sits down for a moment after getting tired

Dearly departed Lilly was a favorite character in Virgin River, but her arc was not a happy one. In season 1, she had lost her husband and also birthed a baby around the same time, which made things very difficult.

Before her own life was cut short, she said that she would do whatever it took to be able to enjoy her farm for an afternoon with her husband one more time, which really showed off her loving nature and how important she was to the residents of the town. This impactful quote, which serves as a poignant reminder to fans to keep loved ones close, summed up her character really well.

“All I Need Is Access To Food, Water, And The Human Version Of A Litter Box.”

Hope - Season 4, Episode 3.

Hope smiles outside in Virgin River

Hope's neurological damage because of the accident made her a different person — she didn't want to talk to people, visit them, participate in activities, or socialize at all — which was quite unlike her real self. She asked Vernon to treat her like a "human cat."

This meant that the oft irritating (but also endearing) Hope just wanted Doc with her and no one else. This season really saw a different side to Hope, but this quote ensured fans that she hadn't lost her spunk and sense of humor which she had in the earlier three seasons.

“You Pulled Me Back From Somewhere Dark.”

Jack - Season 4, Episode 11.

Vigin River Season 4 Mel and Jack

Not only are Mel and Jack relationship goals, but also experts at romance. Their relationship was built on a solid foundation, where they both helped each other out of bad places with care and affection. For Jack, Mel was the light of his life who kept the darkness at bay.

Melinda was plagued by the loss of her husband and baby, while Jack battled PTSD and the terrible effects of war every day. They helped each other through the tough times and found that they were also perfect partners to each other. This quote is a great summary of their beautiful relationship.

“The Less I Know The Happier I’d Be.”

Doc - Season 1, Episode 9.

He may be cranky and gruff at times, but Doc's best trait was that he minded his own business, and didn't bother others with their lives. Gossip was not something he participated in, and he was well aware that interference by third parties often ruins good things for people.

The lack of meddling let Jack and Mel develop a natural relationship that thrived without any external help. Doc's casual line set him apart from the rest of the town who loved to meddle, making him the most sensible character.

“I Love You And I’m Gonna Love Our Baby So Much.”

Jack - Season 4, Episode 12.

The paternity of Mel's baby was a big question that fans wanted answering in season 4. However, even before getting the very positive answer to it, Jack proved that he didn't care for the results since he would care for their baby the same way, even if Mark was the father.

With Jack saying he "didn't care what the email says," it was an extremely sweet moment between the two of them and showed how much Jack loved Mel. They had a realistic relationship, where each had their own flaws, but the show hinged on them being a healthy couple, which was clear here.

“If You Go Through Life Closed Off Then You're Not Really Living...”

Brie - Season 3, Episode 8.

Brie on Virgin River.

Jack's sister was a great addition to the cast of characters in Virgin River, and she also gave him some perspective on relationships which he greatly lacked due to having no family around him. She gave him good advice on how he needed to be more open with his emotions if he wanted to make it work with Mel.

Suppressing his feelings was not a good idea, and their father was a great example of that. Brie encouraged Jack not to repeat his mistakes because she really did care for her brother. They kept it real, which was the sibling relationship that Virgin River needed.

“Grief Doesn’t Ever Get Lighter. We Just Get Used To Carrying The Weight.”

Doc - Season 4, Episode 3.

Mel and Doc's relationship was a very special one, and both of them had suffered loss of some kind. When they got together outside of work, their conversations were always very calming, wise, and full of tidbits of useful life advice.

Everyone in Virgin River had seen death and been hurt, yet it managed to be a happy town because of the community-based living. They uplifted each other, which helped them grow around the grief and heal.

“Perspective Is Most Often The Key To Happiness.”

Jack - Season 1, Episode 1.

Jack may be the owner of a bar, but he had seen his fair share of trials. When he first met Mel and saw her reaction to the hovel that Hope had given her as accommodation, he tried to make her feel better by telling her that the place was salvageable.

The difference lay in her perspective on life. Feeling foul about a place will only lead to unhappiness, but some gratitude for the little things changed everything for Mel, and she grew to love the town she hated because of this one quote.

“I Already Know The Answer. Love Doesn't Scare Me.”

Joey - Season 4, Episode 7.

Joey again made a trip down to Virgin River from L.A., but this time she came with a newly minted boyfriend. When she announced her plans to marry her month-old flame, Mel showed concern and asked her if she was thinking straight by marrying Nate this early.

Love is a big part of the show, and it also depicted the very real-life hesitations that people face when it comes to being together. Human emotion was almost always what propelled or held people back in Virgin River, and Joey chose to let love guide her forward.

“Mel Monroe, Will You Marry Me?”

Jack - Season 4, Episode 11.

Virgin River show

After the cliffhanger of season 3, fans finally got to hear the much-awaited proposal between Jack and Mel, and with the sweetest speech by Jack before he popped the big question. He told Mel that he knew she was something special the first day he walked her to her cottage.

The bond between Mel and Jack had become very solid, very quickly. Anyone who met them knew that they were bound to get married, so it was of huge significance that the proposal happened, Mel accepted, and that the central love story moved forward in the show.
