While the last White Oak Stake, the only physical weapon in Legacies. The Prison Worlds could hold the key to reclaiming this weapon in future stories set in The Vampire Diaries’ universe.

Prison Worlds are alternate dimensions created by Gemini or Bennett witches throughout The Vampire Diaries and Legacies that copy and repeat a single day on Earth. As their moniker suggests, these pocket worlds are often used as prisons to stash dangerous supernatural entities. However, in both The Vampire Diaries and Legacies, they are also used as safe refuges. Each Prison World is a deserted, but otherwise exact replica of the entire Earth as it was the day the Prison World was made, thus containing all the items present in the world at that time.

Could Someone Retrieve A White Oak Stake From A Known Prison World?

Rebekah, Klaus and Elijah standing together

At the end of Legacies, which is set in 2029, none of the five Prison Worlds made and explored in The Vampire Diaries and Legacies are viable options for retrieving the White Oak Stake as a means to kill an Original Vampire. The last White Oak Stake was destroyed when Klaus and Elijah destroyed the Hollow on Mardi Gras in 2026. Of the three Prison Worlds made prior to that point, those set in 1903 and 1994 are inaccessible because the ascendants required to access them were destroyed, whereas the world set in 2018 collapsed in on itself.

Undiscovered Prison Worlds Could Be The Answer

Bonnie and the Bennett witches saving Mystic Falls in The Vampire Diaries

Of course, the Gemini coven could have made other Prison Worlds in The Vampire Diaries universe between their first one in 1903 and the destruction of the last White Oak Stake in 2026. Lizzie and Josie (the only remaining Gemini witches), Bonnie or another Bennett witch, or descendants of Josie could retrieve White Oak Stakes from them, if they found the Prison Worlds’ ascendants intact. Other objects lost from time could also be reintroduced to the timeline, if such well-timed Prison Worlds were accessible.

Not every powerful item has a backup in a Prison World, though. Josie and Lizzie did not make any Prison Worlds during the existence of the Red Oak Stakes that could kill the Tribrid Hope Mikaelson. Only a few weeks between Hope’s transition to full Tribrid, accompanied by the growth of the red oak, and the destruction of both the red oak tree and the stakes Lizzie makes from it. Unless Bonnie incongruously happened to make one during that narrow window, this the White Oak Stakes has no hope of being accessed via a Prison World without introducing time travel to The Vampire Diaries’ universe.
